Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I saw a Raleigh Twenty on the front rack of a city bus yesterday. I was quite surprised.

This boat.

I saw them lose to Emirates in 2017. Still have a big Oracle battle flag that a model in a fancy runabout threw to me when we were watching. The view from the course was so poor we eventually went below and watched the race on TV.

Yeah, crazy event, but much more entertaining since they went to "arena" sailing with really fast, exciting, boats instead of ponderous and arcane goings on where only the rich could watch it live and only a racing sailor could stand to watch it on TV.

I worked up a sweat riding up to the thrift store to donate a stack of books but was much less enthused about it than you seem to be. Had to drop in to SBUX for a Venti Hazelnut coffee Frapuccino.

I, for one, following a bucket of steamers and accompanied by a nice, cold, Muscadet, all preferably consumed on a picnic table overlooking a beautiful cove somewhere Downeast.

Speaking of weather, I just put the Bar Mitts on (maybe for the rest of the season).

I'm sure WhyFi has a comment.

Also, the part where the boat uses batteries but the crew has to turn cranks to charge them is one of the dumber things I've seen recently in sport.

Not sure. No one else down here seems to have seen them, ever. I did get asked if they were oven mitts once.

They're the fleece-lined XLs, too. Toasty.

Class rule on energy sources. All the operations are supposed to be human-powered, but energy can be stored. Makes sense to me.

If I remember right, anytime a sail went up or down, or moved, they were hand cranking like madmen, so what's the difference?

None. You could store that energy too.

Come to think of it, cyclists should power their own gizmos.

Can the crew actually replenish the amount of power used using those cranks? Or are they cranking the whole time and playing catch up?

I just think about that video of a track sprinter barely being able to power a toaster (but also realizing that toasting a slice of bread wastes an ungodly amount of energy from not all the heat generated is utilized)

Human-powered is human-powered. You don't see rjones28 racing in le Tour on his ebike.
