Hello SS fanatics!

Yellow Fever

I just bought a $300 entry level Windsor SS HourPlus and it rocks...for the money. I chose SS since on every single bike I've ever owned no matter what the terrain I never used more than (2) gears so why do I need 21? I LOVE riding track bikes on the street due to the extreme light weight, the razor sharp handling, the stop on a dime (in spite of wheel rim brakes!) braking, the inch-wide tires, etc., etc.. For me SS road/track bikes are where its at & I have enough mtb/hybrid experience to know whats right for me. I'm not a hipster dufus, I don't have a hillbilly beard, I don't "vape bro" or drink $10/can "craft" beers, but I LOVE riding a freewheel single speed road bike. The only mods I've done so far are change to a 52T chainring and a 12T freewheel cog in the rear giving me the same ratio Eddie Merckx used to set the one hour distance recond.

Yeah please don't equate this thing with having anything to do with Eddy Merckx. It's cool you enjoy the bike and that is totally fine but this has no relation to Windsor the company that featured Eddy in an ad on a bike he didn't ride (his hour record was a custom Ernesto Colnago frame).

1) Eddy Merckx used a 52/14
2) does "Yellow Fever" strike anyone else as a little tone-deaf for an Asian product?
3) threadless headset *and* a stove-pipe seatpost?

Its basically an economical version of the same frame geometry Eddie used to set his hour record. Hence the name THE HOUR. "Yellow Fever" has nothing to do w/ anything asian. My bike is YELLOW...thats it.

Eddy and this bike couldn't be farther apart. If you had bought a Colnago or even a DeRosa or a Peugeot and mentioned Eddy maybe you might have something but really not much unless it was a similar frame to what he rode or had some direct lineage.

This is a cheap frame from Bikes Direct that uses a name they bought out to give bikes prestige. I get that they mention someone named Eddie but maybe they are referring to Eddie Munster who did ride a SS Schwinn stingray-esque bike designed by George Barris and Von Dutch I believe or maybe deceased NYC messenger Fast Eddie but he rode an Dave Molton frame (not built for him but very nice hand built bike) and I don't think had any ties to BD.

Who cares if it is or isn't the same bike Eddy used. Let the guy have his bike and enjoy it.

^ What he said! Its just a very economical road bike. Its light a a feather, quick as lightning & handles like a razor blade. Every time I ride it. I think of how much I'd love to (if I had the legs for it) to take it on a 200mile road trip loaded down w/ gear.
