Cycling about Adelaide. Any advice.
My plane voucher is set. I am flying into Melbourne on April 21 and will be in the Adelaide area for 3 weeks. With a couple of days spent about Melbourne.
Among my questions are, where is an ideal location to do circle tours about the Adelaide region. A special attraction for me will be to ride out to the Barossa Valley wine district and generally, just to enjoy Australia with all South Australia's culture and scenic attractions.
A suggestion as to which town about Adelaide would be close to the center city, yet place a cyclist near trails to see the countryside. And taste the wine. Can one get about in Adelaide without a car? How about transportation. Is it bike-friendly. ? Ideas as to favorite cycling paths or destinations. Inter-Urban transportation. Are trains and buses bike-friendly.
I've been watching a fair amount of Australian tv. Will I need a dictionary to understand Aussie slang. I am told, do not order Foster's at a pub. It is in bad form and marks you as a dag.

i lived in adelaide most of my life. u can't buy fosters there for starters.
the city is not very bicyclist friendly, drivers can be dickheads.
once you get out of the city though you can ride wherever you want to go

That's right fosters is a joke! It's only available overseas. Bikes are only allowed on trains. See below:

Bikes are not allowed on buses or trams. However, they can be carried on trains during the following times:
Monday to Friday before 9:00am and after 3:00pm: If you are travelling with a bike on trains during these times you must hold a validated concession metroCARD or MetroTicket for your bike. During peak travel times space may be limited on services making it impractical for bikes to travel safely. Adelaide Metro asks that you please wait for the next available service with enough space to safely board and secure your bike.
Bikes can be carried for free on trains Monday to Friday between 9.01am and 3pm or between 6pm and the last service when space is available.
Bikes can be carried Free Saturday, Sunday & public holidays all day when space is available. At all other times a peak concession fare must be purchased for your bike.
It's free to take a fold up bike or foot-powered scooter on-board which are fully enclosed in a bag up to 90cm long x 60cm high x 40cm if space permits.
