What is this small cable end barrel?

I was going through my plastic tubs of miscellaneous parts and came across a cable I didn't recognize. Or readily find on the internet.

Anybody know what the small cable end is for?

Sorry for the placement, they were hard to keep still.

Thank you

Gear cable for Huret (and the Schwinn approved Huret made) levers. Generally found on older gear cables that also have a slightly thicker cable compared to modern index system cables but thinner then brake cables. They are still available and our shop stocks a token few just for those older bikes with Huret levers. Andy

Generally known as “lollipops” by those of us who have to deal with lots of old bikes.
