Hi from the land of beer and cheese

Hey everyone,

I'm new here. I've ridden "department store bikes" casually my whole life. The other day I decided that I needed to exercise more and could use a hobby/a way to meet people in the community. It also coincided with my finding a free bike on the side of the road. I don't think it's anything special, and it's older than I am, but it's nicer than anything I've owned before. I decided that I would use the opportunity to try to learn basic bike maintenance and hopefully get more serious about biking.

I'll post some pictures of it after I meet my 10 post/comment minimum. It's an old Peugeot, probably older than I am. I don't know much about bikes in general, but from my google research I think it's a Mont Cenis? Probably early-mid 80's.

Welcome. You are about to discover that even lower end French bikes are good riders. You will find help with your "Pug" rehab in the "Classic & Vintage" forum. Don
edit:https://www.parktool.com/blog/calvin...s-back-to-life Appears to be quite nice & an upper end bike.

oh god -- that seat post scares me. If I'm going to have any hope of actually riding this thing I'm going to have to get the seat adjusted though.

Welcome and you are going to love riding that vintage road find ... there is alot of great advice on here and youtube has a ton of helpful maintenance videos.

If the bike gets you out and about, then it's no doubt (oooh I rhymed!) that it's the right bike for you.
