I don't see why not. Good 4130 frame in the late '80s Le Tours. You've already put Dura Ace on a Super Sport. Probably the difference being in the angles more so than tubing quality between those two.....Have a ball with it.

Ditto that. If the frame fits you well, and the upgrades will improve your riding pleasure, by all means you should upgrade. Ignore the snobs and enjoy your bike.

Can't believe it's been over 5 months since anyone posted a new build in this thread!

Here's one that got completed today, a 1987 Schwinn Circuit with full DA 7400/7401 7 speed. Built this last year with Ultegra, but that got swapped over to the Della Santa and the DA stuff is period correct, anyway.

Yes, that's Guinness Foam powder coat, and Velocal decals that you can't get any longer, thanks to The Schwinn Decal Police:

Another recent completion. Actually built this one last year with 10 speed Shimano 105, but think the Shimano 600 (6207/6208) stuff is more appropriate. Little damage to the seat tube decal, but what can you do? New wheelset with 600 hubs laced to Velocity Twin Hollow rims.

I thought Tri-Color was the first SIS version of 600...

Nope 6208 was. Basically the same as 6207 but with an SIS RD and indexed shifters. Very similar look and feel to DA 7400.

First edition tricolor was 7 speed.

I bought a 1989 World Sport last month for $125. I initially planned to offer $100, but it was immaculate so I decided it was worth the extra 25 bucks. I haven't ridden a bike in 35 years and I love the way these old bikes look. The last few weekends I rode 25 miles/day with no issues. Saturday I rode 71 miles on the Longleaf Trace, an excellent rails to trails multi-use path in Hattiesburg, MS. No issues and it rode like a new bike. I 'm really happy with the bike. I'll try to list a photo soon.

Recently completed '88 Schwinn Circuit, a little taller than usual for me but it kind of fits. Later 105 10 speed stuff with DA downtube shifters. Amazed that the chrome is in such good shape after 26 years! Nitto stem and bars, Tektro brakeset.

Have also been using 25C tires more and more, I think they give a somewhat more plush ride...

That`s beautiful. I hope I can get my paint to look that good.

Not as pretty as the one above but I love her anyway. Superbe Pro derailleurs & crankset, Modolo Carbon Fiber shift levers. Campagnolo Omega rims laced to Shimano 600 7 speed hubs.

A little late, say just over the line but a great Schwinn. 90 Traveler...Gotten off the back of a truck in less then complete state. Added new tires, cables, rear DR and a SM Regal saddle. Just a little bigger then my usual size at 58cm. Nice bike for rain days. Group for that year is Shimano 300EX. The real deal is the frame, Made in US 4130 double butted Tru Temper through out.

Have not decided if it stays in the stable but I seem to ride it more then the other Schwinns.

'87 Tempo powder coated in Harley Orange Metallic by Len McCreary at Figure Finishing LLC, new decals by Velocals. Shimano 600 tricolor with rare 8 speed down tube shifters, Cinelli stem and bars, Chinese Regal knock-off saddle, Vittoria Zaffiro Pro's in 25, just an all-around really nice bike. I think I'm gonna move that saddle nose up a bit, though:
