skin suit for a road race
Would you wear a skin suit for a road race? usually i just wear it for the Time trials. but yet it is so comfortable,
love to try it in a race but yet no back pockets is what holds me back
so why would you wear one or not for road race?

1) the reason you mention, no pockets.
2) the extremely small aero advantage is not going to matter much in a pack.
3) good race jerseys, with grippers on the bottom, somewhat mimic skin suits, and reduce the difference in drag between the 2.
4) I look bad in a skinsuit.

One guy showed up for my Sunday 60 mile group ride in a skinsuit. I think he tucked a couple gels under his leg grippers, but still... kinda silly. I'd imagine it was his only clean gear that day.
I've seen plenty of people racing in skinsuits at RRs around here. A lot of the skinsuits have pockets sewn into the back like a jersey, no one seems to complain about them so do whatever is comfortable.

My skinsuit has pockets, and honestly I don't eat much in a 120ish km road race. It would work fine, but I don't just because getting in and out of one is a bit of a pain. Combined with few/no places to get changed at races, it just adds one tiny bit of annoyance. In regular kit, you can pin your own number without getting naked, for example.

I got a skin suit for my birthday back in 1982. Cops and parents hate it but it works! Been wearing it every day since I got it!

No. The proper attire or uniform for a road race is bib shorts and separate jersey. Wearing a skinsuit to a road race? Jorts might actually be less offensive.

I'll wear skinsuits during crits on occasion. It's more of a function of clean bib/jersey availability, especially if I'm doing multiple races.
When I do road races, I carry a spare tube, pre-glued patches, tire iron, and small pump (or Vittoria Pit Stop when on tubulars) in my jersey pocket. Without these carry-on items,if you go otb then puncture, you might be in for a walk.

I have a couple skin suits I bought in the '90s by a brand called De Soto Sport. I don't know how I found out about them in the pre-Internet age, but I bought two of them for $60 each. They have one fairly large pocket in back.
A couple years ago a guy offered me a free, brand new Hincapie jersey at a group ride. It was XL and you don't say no to a free jersey with tags. This thing is so tight that I look like I'm wearing a skin suit!
I didn't look at it too closely and found that it has the logo of a local strip club. Aside from the fit, I don't wear it much because I don't want anyone yelling at me for being a sexist pig, etc.

I've been noticing more pros wearing them in road races. I guess it really depends on the elevation changes. If its pretty flat maybe so. If its hilly or mountainous then definitely not. The main problem I see is not being able to unzip and cool off in hot weather.
