Get Certified to Train and Race
I'd like to start a thread for us to post cert classes for all velodromes:
- To let others who may be ready to take the dive.
- To let us know what's going on at our local tracks so we can inform friends, teammates, etc...
Any other questions related to getting certified?

DLV is hosting a Weekend cert class March 17 & 18 2018.
New rider weekend class ? March 17-18 | Dick Lane Velodrome
This is great if you live in the ATL area. This is also great if you live somewhere else that has a more time-intensive cert program (e.g. 4 Saturdays in a row...) and DLV's cert will be accepted at your local track. Coming to ATL for the weekend may be better for you. DLV is one of the steeper tracks in the US at 37 degrees (give or take). Usually certs here are accepted at steeper tracks like Rock Hill and certainly at more shallow tracks like TTown (you should ask anyway, though).

next introductory class takes place the weekend of March 17-18 from 1pm to 4pm,
both days (weather permitting).
This is a two day track certification class. No prior experience is required. We start

advanced skills. After completion of the program, you’ll be certified to train and
race at the velodrome.
Just bring your shoes, helmet and pedals. Track bikes are provided.

Certification classes for the Boulder Valley Velodrome are listed on its website:

Dates should be posted by April.
Certification can also be arranged for groups such as clubs and companies.
Upon certification your license will be upgraded from 5 to 4.
Certified riders can use the track for training.

One thing to note, there are tons of people who don't care to race and simply use the velodrome as a controlled training environment so that they can get some intense, high speed miles in without having to deal with traffic, trails, or the boring trainer.
I've known several to train several times per week and never cared to race.

The NSC Velodrome in Blaine, MN starts certification classes on May 1. Each class is 4 weeks, ~2hrs per session. Additionally, they offer womens/trans/femme-only classes and USAC licensed accelerated classes, too.

On a related note. I was at the track tonight watching the training session and saw a middle-aged guy watching intently, like he came there to see what this is all about. I struck up a conversation with him and indeed he was interested in taking the beginner class this weekend and didn't know about the track before then.
I talked with him a bit and even took him to the infield and he saw the track up close (there were only a few riders on at the time). Hopefully it helped demystify it a bit.
So, outreach definitely works. I didn't ask him how he heard about the class, but he definitely knew the exact date and was scoping it out ahead of time.

I find it amazing that I only found out about my local track league last year after going to the velodrome for nearly a year beforehand just doing drop in sessions. It took one guy to ask me if I was planning on taking part for me to even realise it existed and do some research...
