I followed one of these cashier's-check-deals as far as they could take it to see what would happen. The guy had requested me to send him a small money-wire deposit of $35 as a good-faith act on my part for his generosity of paying well-beyond my asking price, which I explained I couldn't do since all my funds were tied up in the bike, so he agreed to send me the cashier's check anyway. I received a check for $1350, researched the bank it was drawn on and found it to be a non-existent physical bank, with several online complaints from folks who'd been directed to the physical location and found it was closed during business hours. My bank confirmed it was a bogus check with invalid routing numbers. I called the guy back and asked him to advance me some cash since my bank would cash the check, but needed to hold the check for a few days and I really needed the cash now. He never replied back, but I had a great enjoyment in annoying him for a few days. Then, I reported the entire transaction with cell-phone number, bank info on the check, name given, etc, to the FBI.

I am loathe to admit but I got stung on one of those deals once. I got things made right though.

Now I meet at Friendlies parking lot, demand cash and bring my 'little friend'

I sent him a nice reply. I won't give details because it wasn't politically correct.

Ah, I always say send me a United States Postal Money Order. And of course I can take it to the PO first to make sure it's real. Anything else is unacceptable.

I always indicate in my CL ads that I won't reply to any inquiries that don't have a full name (first and last) and phone number, even if it comes via email. That has kept spammers away or at least made it easy to delete inquiries quickly upon receipt.

Here's another one, tell me what you think of this.

I get a text but it's from an email address, not a phone number. I have no idea how you can do that and I can't see what area code the guy is in. Message follows:

(RE Hi, Just saw your bike on craigslist let me know if it's still available Email me at XXXXXX.com) I will be able to meet tomorrow

I actually have two bikes in one ad and like the last scammer this guy only references a single bike and doesn't say which one.
