Rear rack help needed!

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for a steel rear rack? I gotta trek 920 that came with weak aluminum rear bontrager rear rack and it cracked about a year ago... and they replaced it with a new one. and that just cracked! So i'm in the market for a Steel rear rack, disc brake compatable. The frames got NO eyelits. Was looking at the Surly Rear Rack and the Surly Rear Disc rack as well. But not sure they are compatable. Would P clamps make it work? Thanks for taking the time to read this and help

A 920 with no eyelets? Did that change with the model year? I have one on order that will have two sets of rear eyelets, for a rack and fender.

I have an aluminum rack which also broke. I have repaired it so I can use it for now.

I am thinking of making the next rack myself. If you make it yourself, you can make it how you want.

I've used an aluminum Blackburn rack for many years with no cracks. And hauled stuff on it too!

If you're eyelets are not where you need them you could go with a strap on type design, like THULE' (see pick below). It'll strap on to forks or seat stays or any other way you can figure it out. It's rated for 50lbs, I believe. Which I guess means your frame will bend before the THULE' rack does.....

So where are the attachment points? This version clearly has eyelets on the seatstays.

Just get a seat post clamp with rack mounts. Salsa makes one. Many make them. https://salsacycles.com/components/c...lars/rack-lock

I still want to know what the OP's rack that came with the bicycle was attached to if there are no eyelets on the seatstays as pictured above.

Specialized Diverge does the same thing and bikes are shipped that way.

The 920 appears to have had seatstay eyelets since it was introduced:

Sorry, but this thread makes no sense without a proper explanation. Part of me is thinking the "ghost" of SB.

Another huge vote for Tubus. Probably some of the best non-custom steel racks on the market.

Then how was the original rack that came with the bike attached? You did pay attention to the OP, and the follow up, didn’t you? And even if it doesn’t have seatstay eyelets the original rack (and replacement) was obviously attached somehow.

Calling double

Trek website did have disclaimer the equipment may vary but unimaginable why they would omit seat stay eyelets on a touring frame.
Time to update the iggy list.

I commuted for many years with a 30+ years old Blackburn aluminum rack and it performed wonderfully despite routinely carrying up to 40 lbs. Still in service, too. You get what you pay for.
