Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I’d probably also take it in to have the derailleur hanger aligned.
The price of a Park DAG-2.2 is roughly equivalent to five derailleur adjustments (which include hanger adjustment as needed) at our shop.

Yeah, but I’d have drive for eight hours to get there. :þ

Well, when you factor in travel expenses, it totally makes sense to get your own DAG.

Well, let’s proceed on the assumption that my HRmax is 188.

I am scheduled to have a spinal injection next Friday. Just got a call that I first have to have a COVID test on Tuesday. Drive through between 8:30 and 11:30.

Transforaminal? Good luck! Do they hold the anticoagulation for that?

That's off-label but very reasonable.

I’m pretty annoyed by it, I haven’t really had a ton of time to ride, my fitness has suffered a bunch and now that I’m in a place where I have time again, this happens

For back problems, the nuclear option is recumbent. I actually have a OLD one in the crawl space, I never use it but I can't bring myself to pitch it as I am sure I will need it some day when my back goes on me.

How was it injured?

Incidentally, for those worried, my back injury from 10 days ago finally feels like it's returning to normal.

I have a lifetime of bad back stories. I see a chiropractor about once a month but I have also learned to deal with it on my own. The two things that help the most are to maintain a straight back when lifting anything just as a straight back is best for riding the bike. The second thing is exercises to strengthen core muscles.

How far is that above your previous max HR?

I know that everyone is different, but damn - it takes work for me to get above 170.

My sympathies to all the back sufferers. My back was hurting on this morning's ride and it's now clear I have a quadratus lumborum strain.

Up from 177, if we believe the numbers (see 41 thread I started). I have a tiny little hi-revving heart. My resting HR is seldom below 55, with a rock bottom of 48.

I saw the Smoothing thread, but didn't see any numbers. Up to 188 from 177 is huge, though. Like, really huge, innit?

The other day, on my first trainer session of the year, I was happy to see my HR plateauing at ~160 after three 8min long intervals at FTPish.

Yeah, it's huge, but the data look pretty good, assuming there isn't interpolation. Downsampling or a running average wouldn't create such a physiological-looking picture and the data appear to be shown at the native sampling rate of 1 Hz. However, there could certainly be something funny going on. Also, felt fairly strong and killed some segment times and if you look a the W'bal, I was deep in oxygen debt. I was with a big group, so I didn't look down at the display much.
