Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was going to suggest he stop riding plastic frames and hoops, but I think it's too soon.
He could get a lightweight titanium frame.

Then it dawned on certain types, the types that like manipulation and getting others in trouble, that if you could actually get people to put raw onions in their socks you could get a substantial number of people to believe anything and the rest is history.

The sad part of all this is that, on the one hand, a distrust of homeopathic remedies has come about, regardless of merit, and on the other, many tried and true remedies have fallen into disuse and even ridicule. For example, as a Hispanic man, my mom and her mom before her, cooked with garlic just about every day and I can attest that no one in my family has ever been bitten by a vampire. This is an unbroken record for generations into the dim past and thus, solid evidence.

I hope these few comments will cause everyone to pause and reevaluate some of the"information" floating around today. And by the way, I'm considering changing my user name to "Deep Thinker".

I could feel sorry for myself but at least im not the dude who got taken down by one rock. I already know that feeling having to buy a replacement frame AND waiting 4 months for it. That's not a good feeling. @Velo Vol notice the apostrophe usage.

A walk in the park. That was a $50.00 fix on my sled. Has it been steel, the frame would be thrown away.

Well at least in a normal year when I could actually buy a new one on short notice. And yes, I know I'm lucky I could say that.

The LBS is saying it will be quite a bit more than $50. Stay tuned.

This was discovered after yesterday's truncated ride(it was the reason for the truncation). Unfortunately it's a rear. I have extra fronts.

He said it also hit his foot/ankle. So quite a ricochet.

We were traveling at speed, I don't use a speedometer but would guess 25-30MPH and the rock was decent sized.

Rear wheels seem to always fail first because of the heavier weight and torque from drivetrain.

I had some nice wheels with Mavic Reflex rims do that - the rear, OF COURSE! I use the rear hub for a chain keeper when washing my bikes, and the front wheel is in the shed somewhere, with other wheels that have fallen out of favor.

This one is Araya CTL 370. The silver lining is that I have a free rim of the correct size, and will tape the two together and move the spokes over one at a time. A method I've read about but not yet tried. It's not been my experience to have two rims of exactly the same diameter to do it with. I've had this extra rim for prolly 8 or so years. Velox. Made in Mexico, so they say. Vamos a ver.

Not the best ribs ever, but I got in a fun 35mile mountain bike ride(and a few beers after), while they were cooking.
