Books?

Are there any good books on touring, training to tour and bike maintenance out there?

Thanks!

yes yes and yes
but seriously, check out the Park tools video series of bike mechanics. They are consistently the best how to vids out there, well lit, proper camera work and sound, and the techniques and concepts are sound (unlike some joe blow youtube vids)
Go to the main site and you'll see the wide range of topics they touch on, their site is an excellent resource.

you're welcome
learning bike mechanic skills is a gradual process, just like getting into shape riding. Doesnt happen overnight, the most important thing is to start and to keep at it and learn from our mistakes.

There are too many types of "touring" to give you an answer. For example:
  • On one extreme there are companies that put on trips that they call touring, riding a bike that they provide each day, they provide indoor lodging and most restaurant meals.
  • On the other extreme you are riding on a bike trail where a four wheel vehicle can't go and you are camping every night.
  • And everything in between, such as picking your own route on roads between motels, to riding on roads between state parks and private campgrounds.

Bicycle touring pro has a book that seems to be well respected. I’ve been meaning to purchase it myself. You can get it in paper or by downloading it to your device.

I like my Books 17, but it was a little hard until I got to page 160, after that it was wonderful.

Ditto, bills himself as the BicycleTouringPro. Has a terrific YouTube series of his European tours as well.

Thanks. It's how my mind works. Humor is definitely an interesting thing. Many things are universal, but at the same time, everyone has a different take on things and that affects what makes them laugh. Laughter is good for our well being though. It's good to laugh.

Bicycling Magazine Rodale Press had a series of books on bicycles = touring, training, racing and so on.

Cheers

I do not think I have ever read a complete article, but I always download this magazine to look at the photos.
https://www.bicycletraveler.bicyclingaroundtheworld.nl/

I think that past issues can be downloaded for free. They say they have free books, I do not think I ever looked at any so I can't comment on them.
