1986 Miyata-built Specialized Allez

I have, what I've been told a few times from different bike shops, a 1986 Miyata-build red Specialized Allez in near perfect condition.I got it from guy who moved to my area from California and had quite the collection. Since i"ve had it (maybe 9 years) I've put maybe 100 miles on it total. I've barely ridden it. I just had a baby and am thinking about selling it and getting something a little more city-friendly (I live downtown and its hard to get out on the open road).

It won't let me post images bc I'm a newer user, but here is a link w/ the images you can just copy and paste.

Tange Prestige frame and fork with full Dura Ace. The mismatched wheelset is a little annoying, but it still has to be worth a decent amount. It looks out of my price range, so $300+
That U-lock holder on the top tube is making me cringe.

Pic assist.

You’re thinking about selling your baby?!

But anyway, I’d agree with the prior assessment, easily worth that where I am. Now finding a buyer who wants to spend hundreds on non-rare vintage steel... may take awhile, but you should get it eventually. Nice bike

Are you sure it's a Miyata built frame? It has Portacatena holes in the drive side, rear dropout, which would be atypical for a Miyata built Allez.

Tell me more. I've been told by two bike shops and once by a user on this forum who I emailed with and who knew quite a bit about the late 80s Allez. So since 3 separate people told me that, it's what I've believed, but I don't know anything for fact.

Also, the ULock holder was only on the bike for like 3 weeks while I was riding it to and from work while my car was in the shop.

Here is what I was told in the email:

"Hey. This is not a Konno built Allez. The lugs are different.. The Kono built Allez's have long, pointed, tapered lugs and a forward swept fork crown... That being said, that is a beautiful frame. It is likely built by Miyata. Miyata took over production after the 3Rensho built models... "

Lastly, the wheelset is not mismatched anymore. I was getting the front wheel rebuilt when this picture was taken.

Great bike regardless if you give us a nice underside pic of the BB with details and numbers it should be pretty easy to tell who made it. All the red Allez Pro bike from the 80's were pretty great and regardless of maker I would say $500-600 the mismatched none original components limit value some on a bike like this.

I went back and checked my literature. The 1986 Allez was spec'd with Prestige tubing and Shimano dropouts but the 1985 version was spec'd with Prestige tubing and Campagnolo dropouts, though it used Campagnolo SR components. If it is Miyata production, this should be evident from the serial number, which will tell us the manufacturing date, down to the fortnight.

Never bet against T-Mar on production source! +`10 Miyata has a very distinct serial number, easy to spot. I would trust the serial number.

Are you talking about the wheels being mismatched? I have both. I just have to have the one rebuilt.

Also, embarrassed to ask, but where do I find the serial number?

Yes while not a a big thing on a bike this nice mismatched wheels do hurt value and curb appeal some buyers of vintage bikes of this level can be real picky.

The most common location for the serial number is on the under side of the bottom bracket shell. If not there, examine the lower seat tube.

Hey, just circling back here. My wife just had our first baby and all of the sudden I'm not riding at all anymore and find myself in need of a commuter or touring type bike.
