There are at least 7 generations, maybe 13, we lost count. I'd suggest you buy an age appropriate NR derailleur complete to make your life easier.

I've got one. Year, braze-on, clamp, condition, price?

I should have been a bit more specific. Mine is a 1052 /1 1972 and it is a clamp on. The body has a crack in it. It may be easier to just get one complete, although I've seen a couple of bodies for $20.

Thought I'd check here first. Are the cages not interchangeable on the clamp on bodies? I thought I could put my 72 cage on a 73-77 1052/1

I've not swapped bodies but I've researched these gears and I suspect that there's many subtle differences re circlips that may make substitution fussy. Others should chime in.
