So in a continuation from yesterday's discussion, and to help out this biker chic person, Strava will allow you to map your route and track speed, distance, climbing and all that regular stuff, right? These regular features aren't battery hogs, are they? The "beacon" feature is probably what chews up all the battery life, am I right?

A few of us are plotting a cycling-related weekend getaway for August.
Plan is to get a place in Lake Placid, NY. Let the non-cycling spouses see the sights, and let the cyclists ride from Lake Placid up to Whiteface and back. Whiteface is allegedly 8 miles at 8%. Should be fun. Maybe.

So if one is riding less than 8 hours and can recharge each night, that should work.

Oof. Wet ride. There was a bit of ambiguity in the group ride convo this morning - one other guy and myself took the "100% of light rain" forecast to mean that we were a go, everybody else took it to mean that the ride was scrapped. We were wet after waiting around at the meet-up spot, anyway, so we decided that we might as well ride. It wasn't cats and dogs, but it was fairly heavy rain the whole 40+ miles. At times when we had to single-up and I was on his wheel, I felt like I was doing the breast stroke and I had to turn my head to breathe. Good ride, though - glad we HTFUd.

So it all depends on whether keeping a record of the whole route is worth it for her or not.

It's just semantics, choice of words, you're looking at the glass half empty and I'm looking at it half full. When it's 9am in NY it's only 7am in Texas and 6am in LA, right? So when it's 12am in Bermuda it's only 11am in NY, right? They reach midnight earlier than we do.

This is a question to the IT people here, especially those in IT security. I hate having so many passwords, but what drives me NUTS is that many of my accounts insist that I CHANGE my password every month or two. It's ridiculous. And I can't "recycle" an old password or toggle back-and-forth between two different ones.
The end result is that I have to have a piece of paper with all my passwords written down. And between work-related systems I use and non-work systems, we are talking EASILY 25-30 passwords.
Is this nuts? Or am I just getting old?

It’s impractical IMO if the phone can’t be recharged fully every night.

Hi All!
I've signed myself up to do the 400 mile Erie Canal Ride and I'm interested in recording and sharing the ride. I know there are GPS bike computers, but I'm not interested in elevation, pace and heart rate and all that. Just the route interests me. Is there a basic bike GPS that records, saves and shares this? Also, I don't want to spend a ton of money.

so happy you are here
there are basic bike gps units/apps that do what you want but battery life will be the issue
if it were me, I’d put my spouse in charge of charging

Ugh. I think if I put my knees in an inflammation dehydrater I could remove a water bottle's worth of "fluid" today.
I'm exaggerating, probably. Anyway, slow plodding with no power.

I rarely have to change passwords. What's annoying is the security questions. I hardly ever use them, but all these sites want three or more. Dumb.

So I had a good week for overall ride time, got in a bit over 11 hours and about 190 miles. I came here to gloat about being on top of the Addiction leaderboard, but some guy named Jeff in NY is ahead of me by a few miles. Damn. The good news is I'm down about 11 pounds from February/March and apparently am putting out enough power that I pulled a spoke through the hub flange on my FRONT wheel today while getting out of the saddle to sprint around my buddy. Took the easy route home at a reduced pace. Oh well, those Vueltas had a good 7 year run.
