Ciocc with Shimano 600
Once again I need to tap into the collective wisdom of this lovely forum... How much would you pay for this bike? Looks to be a Ciocc from the early 80s with Shimano 600 SIS groupset, Cinelli bars, Mundialita saddle and Mavic wheels. Condition is 9/10 except for the hoods (are replacements readily available?). I'm thinking in the range of $600-$800? Thanks in advance!!

Group is 6207 and/or 6208, which is 1985-87. Dia Compe/Cane Creek non-aero hoods can be made to fit with a little surgery and some bar tape, but original hoods are very scarce. I'd be thinking the lower end of the scale you mentioned.

It is generally set up as a mid level bike based on the component group and other stuff on it. It all comes down to what tubing it has.
Columbus Tretubi, Cromor or Gara will mean it won't be worth more than maybe 500 some bucks (the VG condition really helps). SL could get it up to the 600 level and slightly higher, to the right buyer. SLX could elevate it to 800, or over 1K if the component group was at least Campy Chorus....

OK, the guy let me have it for $300... I think it's a pretty good deal, even if it's lower gauge tubing (there's no tubing decal but I assume it's Cromor or something at that level). I think it would be a stretch to say that the bike even has 100 miles on it. The chainrings look brand new, as do the paint and wheels. I was sold by the bike's condition and the really cool two-tone paint. I'm just going to throw on some Dia-Compe gum hoods (the old ones look like they just rotted out). It has pretty narrow bars (38s) but I figured I'd give them a go before switching out to my normal 42s. The tires are super narrow 20s, but have cracks so I'm going to just throw on some Vittoria Corsa G+ tires I have laying around in a size 23. So besides the tires, new hoods and quick overhaul, I think it's ready to ride!

It may not be a "top" end model but I would say that you did extremely well....how many Ciocc's have you seen at this price point that are as nice as this one?
I would buy these all day at 300.00 you did well...very well.

Agreed, $300 was a good deal. The livery dates to when Veltec/Boyer was the distributor.This, in conjunction with Shimano New 600EX, would place it circa 1986-1987. New 600EX was excellent value in a mid-range group for the era. It performed well and arguably gave away little to Dura-Ace in the critical parameters of shifting and braking. For most, the 170g weight saving and other differences didn't justify by the ~$250 price increase of Dura-Ace. Many cost conscious cyclists competed successfully on New 600EX models. The nondescript tubing suggest a low end frame, possibly even below Cromor. Still, it's a beautiful, nicely manufactured frame. Enjoy!

I had Shimano 600 on my Ironman bike. First generation index shifter which worked really well. I like this bike a lot, but I don't think I could climb anything steeper than an overpass with it.
I used to in the '80s look at cycle mags at night with beautiful Italian models (bikes, not woman) will full Campy that I could never afford. Maybe I should check the used market and indulge myself now. My current bikes are good, but about as exciting as my Honda Accord.
