Difficulty with Cateye Volt 400 bracket

I'm fooling around with the Volt 400 that I just purchased and have been having a lot of trouble sliding the headlight into the bracket. I'm trying to figure out if this is a typical problem with this light, if I can make adjustments to fix it, or if I just lucked out with a defective item.
It is hard to slide the light into the bracket, and even harder to slide it out. Also, one needs to push on a small clip to release the light, but pushing it while the bracket is on the bike is difficult and painful. I've tried using a key to push up on the clip, which takes the same amount of time, but at least it doesn't hurt.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'm really thinking that I should send it back and request a new one, but I would really just like to get this to work.

When i'd use the Cateye brackets ten years ago, i'd like them.
Mabye your copy has a problem?
Could you try another mount?

My handlebars have a wide circumference, so the bracket type is pretty ideal. It's been hard to find a bracket that can accommodate something so large.
I will check around for an old bracket. Thanks for your help!

It's also possible to combine the B&M 470LH with the Cateye Center Fork Bracket(5342440)
