Replacing Shimano 105 10 speed freehub body with Ultegra
Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum and I am looking for some advice.
I have a Shimano 105 10 speed group set and my freehub is making a noise. I am wondering if I can easily upgrade the body only. I am considering going to a Ultegra 6700 body that is for 10 speed cassette. Is this a direct swap or are there any spacers needed. Also, if compared the designs what are the advantages of the Ultegra over 105. Again, I am not touching anything else but merely swapping the freehub bodies.

It should be a direct replacement but the drive side cone and dust seal may not be the same.

If the noise is truly in the freehub, then you'll be fine, but if it isn't there is no reason to switch. Try a little lube before you switch.

They have different part numbers: Y3TA98060 is for FH-5700 and Y3DV98060 for FH-6700. I also used Shimano's substitution excel sheet and they're not listed as subs for each other. They may work but not having tried that exact combo or compared them they may not.
I doubt there is any advantage to the Ultegra body. Generally Shimano freehub bodies are very dependable at pretty much all price points. I'd just buy the Y3TA98060; they are available on ebay $26 shipped.

You haven't described the noise.
Doing so may illicit more helpful responses.

The noise was a high-pitched sound like a squeak. Just in case, I lubed the bottom bracket and initially it seemed like the noise has disappeared afterwards. However, fellow riders that overheard it commented that it is from the freewheel.

Does it occur when pedaling? If so it is not the freehub. Try a tiny dab of oil on the dust cap on the left side.

Carefully pry the thin rubbery seal from the inboard side of your old freehub. Then thoroughly flush all the old crap out with mineral spirits. Then apply a medium weight oil and reinstall the seal and freehub.
it's been a rare freehub I haven't been able to fully revive this way.
