One of the new short wheelbase models. Looks like it'd have snappy handling.

Probably worth $250 for parts, but how does it get folded in half like that with no (apparent) damage to front wheel or fork?

My guess is garage door or similar on-top-of-car clearance issue at slow speed. $250 for parts is a killer, even if one wheel is toast. If both are fine, lotta bang for the buck.

I've seen a number of bikes set up like that (mainly on here) and I have yet to figure out how someone uses the brakes. Do they sort of hover their hands over the levers and then press down when the time comes?

I tend to think they're riding upright, and holding on to the bars with fingertips, rather than allowing their palms to carry weight. They'll brake with their thumbs and palms; far from ideal.

That's pretty common. A bike gets into a powerful head-on collision, and the frame buckles and not the wheel or fork, or the fork buckles but not the frame or wheel, or the wheel buckles and not the frame or fork.

So it's the same location / seller? Sometimes you see a pic like that in some wacky ad, then the same pic, months later, in an ad in a completely different location. Usually means one or both ads are a scam.

Trek Al3

Yep, same location. I saw the ad around Christmas near Philadelphia, and it's still just across the Delaware. Guess they're having trouble selling these components with the wreck still attached. I heard roof rack/garage collision, but don't hold me to it.

Another one of those scam ads with the link to gobikerid (see posts 10527-10528 above). This time it's another legit Milwaukee ad for a nice-ish old Performance roadie with a lugged frame, text and drive-side photo hijacked for the scam ad. The scammer even trims the photo a bit, perhaps to evade image search matching by tineye, et al. I *ALMOST* fell for this one, since the map in the scam ad indicated my neighborhood.

Scam ad (flagged, so may not show):
https://madison.craigslist.org/bik/d...099979868.html

Real ad:
https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/bik...099884231.html

Wonder how widespread this is becoming. Seems like they target ads with good photos. For those who do sell on CL, I wonder what might be a useful watermark to put on one's photos, to discourage this kind of thing.
