2017 year in review -Did the Fleet go up or down?

Curious if most were adding or downsizing in 2017?

What did you sell / add? More bikes or less?

For me it was about lowering the numbers, yet upgrading the fleet.

Richard Sachs 1975 (too small)
Raleigh Track Pro 1975
Olmo Grand Prix
Cannondale
Specialized Stumpjumper
Alex Singer (too small)

Added -

Richard Sachs

Pegoretti Luigino

1974 Masi GC

Nice to see that Scott's Singer found a good home, VR.

I sold my autographed Eddy Merckx MX Leader to a friend to make room for a custom Woodrup touring bike. It's in the Paint shop right now and am really looking forward to taking possession soon.

that's it for me..

I think I've detected a flaw in your question.

You asked if the fleet went down.

What heresy is this?

I added a Pinarello Record (which I will probably sell). I also built up a frame that I purchased in 2016 (LeMond Maillot Jaune) so I won't count that. I sold the only mountain bike that I owned. It was a Cannondale M800 'Beast of the East'.

I visited the LBS and found 5 bikes they were building for me, one of which I forgot I owned - so I think the number went up.

I think the year ended up with no change. The Univega fixie was stripped of it's parts and the frame was sold. Most of the parts found a new home except for the wheelset. I wasn't looking to replace it with anything as the thought was to slowly reduce the fleet a little. But then this bottom end Batavus fell into my lap and I just had to get it. Still in the process of rebuilding.

2018 will see me finally strip the parts of the Trek 800 Antelope "tank" as the Batavus will replace it as the errand/yard sale machine.

Does it count if I ship bikes out of the country?

I'm sending two to Bayern for use this summer and on future visits.

My Hollands and Tommasini ( Pete's building this one for me) so I don't technically have it here atm.

I really only added three this year.

I bought our son's Della Santa, which was way too nice to send away.

! by gomango1849, on Flickr

In addition, I ordered two off topic mtbs.

A Salsa Blackborow mid-tail.

and a Yeti SB5+ in the 27.5 wheelsize. I'll be doing several mtb races this summer and this one looks like fun.

We are also doing our annual trip to Moab and Fruita, so this should be a hoot.

Neutral!

+2 parts bikes
+2 possible projects for friends
-1 bike for my wife
+1 bike for my wife (having her bike stolen wasn’t fun, but she admits she likes her “new” bike better = +1 for C/V!)

If I look at my own personal fleet, I don’t think I actually increased at all!

Still making friends on BF, so +1 there!

PS - glad to see the RS was replaced by a properly fitting RS, VR.

Stayed the same in quantity (3) but serious upgrades in quality as my three bikes are now a '71 Paramount, '77 Volare, and '86 Peloton, with the latter two being acquired this year. I think I'm good for the time being.

Picked up 2 this year, 1 frameset will be sold but that hasn't happened yet - probably because I haven't taken any photos to post in the classified section.

1. 1997 Lemond Zurich out of reynolds 853. Will get a mostly Chorus group 3x10. Frame is being touched up and clearcoated by https://www.chestercycles.com.

2. 1988 Cannondale tourer - don't actually have it yet. Will get 700c rims, Compass tires, replaced consumables, and possibly a SON dyno hub up front. Would like to use suntour command shifters but not sure they will work with a 6-speed deore SIS RD. If not, it will get barcons.

After these projects are complete, will service my Giant XTC mtb to be used during the second half of the Bourbon and Tobacco C&V Tour in April.

The first part (the road part ~55 miles, 2500' climbing) will see the Zurich. The second part (gravel and singletrack in Land Between the Lakes) will see the XTC. Y'all are invited to join us for the B&T Tour.

Oh man, I started the Fall at two modern road bikes that I've had for years (04' Fuji Roubaix Pro w/ Reynolds 853 and '05 Cannondale R900) and then I fell down the rabbit hole when I bought:

'89 Bianchi Giro(?) Team bike - this started the madness
'89 Trek 400 that I recently overhauled (first time ever!)
'88 Trek 330 that I got for $25 that's next on the bench
'97 Cannondale R800 bought while on vacation in Florida that fought with Hurricane Irma and lost*

So yeah, I hope I can sell a few in 2018 because this is getting out of hand!

*in hindsight, I shouldn't have bought this bike because it's in such poor shape (talk about oxidation) but I was dumb on vacation and didn't think $80 was too bad for a complete Cannondale. Dumb me!

Broke my NY 2017 Resolution to not buy any bikes and only parted with 1, an old Shogun 500 frankenbike that was WAY too small, the buyer was tickled to death with it though. I ended up keeping 3 I had intended to sell but in my defense one was for my wife and I have a potential buyer for #3 in the Spring. To my discredit, I added the following.......

So, can I resist adding any more in 2018? Time will tell.

I'm in need of proper hubs. I hope to have it complete and photo documented by mid-May. Until then, mostly before pictures.

The braze-ons are old-timey fender "eyelets".
