RetroMod 83 NOS ProMiyata!
I usually dont retromod a bicycle. however this is a bike I wanted to ride on the club rides that are fairly fast. I need the modern shifting to keep up with these guys. So here is the result. Click the link to the Youtube 2 minute

I worked for GT bicycles for 10 years. the store was a client. He is known for buying shops going out of business and old stuff. Soo I check in every once in a while.

it may sound strange..but I somewhat agree.. But I wanted to ride this bicycle so badly with the club I needed to make it competetive.. So..yes..I retromoded it. Pray that I recieve forgiveness

Dont let it bother you.. I was a Miyata dealer back in the 80s and all their bicycles were 1.25 lbs or more heavier than their competition with the same parts. That being said they are also better frames. They were stiff, responsive and great for guys over 180lbs. We also called it that because they didnt have named brand tubing. Dont let it offend. Miyata is one of my favorites. I own a slew of bicycles and that is the one I wanted to ride with the clubs. thats why I retromoded it.

Whatever. No more of an abomination than the 5700 105 parts that are hanging on my '85 770 at the moment.
My only criticism: home brew a dt stop mount that bolts onto the aero shifter mount. It just looks like a kludge currently.

I've done more abominable things in the name of making a bike rideable. IMO, riding the bike makes up for it.

The aero mount on these frames is frustrating, isn't it? My '83 1200 has the same, and I've put any resto-mod on hold because of it. Also, I don't think the tubing on this is splined, no?
I think it's a great build for the fact that you put it together to be ridden, and ridden hard.

All but one of my older downtube bikes have been updated to STIs or Ergos because it just works better.

Secondly... I don't understand the "sewer pipe" thing- even with your explanation. It doesn't offend or bother me, I just don't understand why you'd refer to it as such. I'm sure you know much more about Miyata than I do, and you pretty clearly have affection for the bike and the brand (and old bikes in genera), but unless you're attempting to curry favor with folks that are into ultralight carbon bikes- "sewer pipe" has nothing but negative connotation.
My one Miyata is a 1000LT with the STB CrMo tubing- it's heavier than my 1985 Trek tourers, but it's much more stable- it's a VERY different ride. If I were to choose a bike to be a pack mule and carry as much weight as possible- it would be the 1000LT.
Congratulations on the build- I can only imagine how nice it rides- and get that cable stop taken care of!

I only brought it up because you mentioned the words "offend" and "bother" in post 11.
I got my Miyata 1000LT after I "restomodded" my Trek 720- and I kind of got it with the intention of doing something like that with it, so I didn't want it in pristine condition. You've got such a great collection of bikes- and it's a "'collection;" almost "museum" sorta... and your stuff is all great- living by the "life's too short for ****ty bicycles" credo. . As much as I've been spoiled by having what I consider really cool bikes in what I consider pretty nice condition- Getting my Miyata 1000LT wasn't too much of an issue- because it had stuff missing and replaced and some paint scuffs and the decals are faded under the clear... But if you were getting a bike that's as sought after as a 1000- you'd have to pay a pretty big premium for it's pristine-ness.
When I used to trade around guitars- I just wanted to play as many cool guitars as I could get my grubby little hands on. I won't say "condition didn't matter," but I had no problem in paying a fair price for a player grade instrument. But if I were to be hanging guitars on my wall, I'd want much prettier pieces than I was trading around. My "keepers" are all pretty much beaters that I've had for 20 or so years or more... (my gosh- it's seriously been like 18 years since I bought a guitar!!!)
Of course, I'm not really good at the guessing game, I know your Pro isn't STB, but I would imagine the ride is kind of like the difference between the 1000LT and my Trek 720.

There's restomods and then there's restomods. This is one of the very few I really like. I think it has to to with the blue/black/gold Pro Miyata color scheme (colorway?) that works very well with the black of most modern group sets.

Anyone know if DA 7800 and/or Ultegra 6600 derailleurs will work with DA/Ultegra 11 speed shifters?

The cable pull is different and derailleurs from generations with cables under tape actually have a pull ratio too.
6600 derailleurs are a no go with under the tape 11sp shifters(5800, 6800, and higher).
