I know of one guy who lives in Morris, up 31 from G'dale and puts together rides up there. We, our little group, often ride in the Brookside area also north and west of there. March 17th i believe it is, there is the Brookside Festival with an organized road ride, the "Frenchie Negron Classic", a MTB race, a 5K run and a Little Miss Brookside Pageant.
Maybe I'll see you there. (If you're up for a hilly ride.)

Here is my little "training" route from my parents house: https://www.routeslip.com/routes/2995
^ its not really a safe route due to inexperienced drivers + cyclists, but its quick and fun for my father & I.
Here is my not-late-for-work route, and honestly, I enjoy this trip more than a lot of the other riding I do.
https://www.routeslip.com/routes/2996
^ the first hill I mention being harder than it looks is due to traffic and not so much the hill. Granted it gets pretty steep, but it gets really narrow and people FLY over it. 75% of the time I walk up the final 20-30ft because I'm carrying my work clothes/shoes in my pack and unstable on the last bit.

Hi again, been gone a while...
I just learned about the "Ride to Live" metric century at Barber Motorsports race track in the Birmingham area. This is one of the nicest motorcycle/sportscar road race courses in the US and to think that they are opening it to bicycles is awesome! It's Saturday 4/7 (Easter weekend) and the cost is $35 to ride the track in the morning. Watch (or participate in) USAC races in the afternoon. Even an Easter egg hunt for the kids. The Barber motorcycle museum is huge, but it does cost to get in (about 10-12 bucks I think?)
Check out https://www.ridetolivecentury.com/
Best wishes to you all!

I did two loops at oak mountain today, had two flats, and I saw one rattlesnake. Beautiful day to ride. I think it got into the upper 80's.

yeah i like oak mtn. i have only done about 8 miles of the trail out there. i need to get out there earlier so it doesnt get dark on me. I like the trails out there. Even tried a few laps around the new bmx track. I was going out there today but my whole body aches from last night. Me and a friend did a tour of birmingham late night last night on our bikes (roughly 18 miles) and climbed red mtn as well.

The last winter Miss Electra and the Naked Guy ride, from Pepper Place on Southside will be held Saturday from Pepper Place at 6pm. (see link below)
The Birmingham Bicycle Club holds a summer long all riders ride at 6 pm starting at the Botanical Gardens on Cahaba Road near the Zoo. on Tuesdays.
The "cycling gods and goddesses" amass behind Homewood Cycles in Homewood for a Tuesday night hammer fest with the "A" group leaving at 5, the "B" group leaving at 5:15, and the "C" group leaving at 5:30. With the "A's" being the highest rung deities and the "C's" the lowest.
The Gardens ride at 6 on Tuesdays has a mix from "A's" as in holes to walkers with tennis balls. One can be or find any speed or style one wants.
Sometimes I've got the tennis balls and sometimes the hole. Right, vpiuva?
And yes, any one can come to any of these rides.

I missed the "Tuesday Night Worlds" this week due to being in WV for work but made the first two. I caught on at BBC on the first ride, although the B's never came by and left Homewood with the B's on the second. We got split at Hwy 31 into two groups but we kept the group I was in together till we hit Dogtrack where a couple went off the front, myself and another stuck together and then the rest of the group went OTB. We ended up catching on to another group on Old Leeds before heading back into Mt Brook. Think we ended up with 32 miles at almost 19mph. I had a great time with it but it hasn't helped me that much in the "real" races yet. Oh well I get another shot at one of those on Saturday, hoping for warm weather...

My bicycle rack's attachment was supposed to be here yesterday. Maybe when I get the damn thing in and on my car, I'll be able to make the Tuesday night rides. I actually may just commute in the morning (Tuesday) to work downtown, then cycle out to the BBG and catch on with the group, then split off to my house in Irondale.
Are there any more of these "Ms Electra & The Naked Guy" type rides? I see the last one was this past weekend. I'm looking for fun 10-20 milers + bar stop at the end.

OK, so how many made it to the "Ride to Live" at Barber Motorsports Park? It was cold as stink, but I did have fun on the track and lunch was great. I really hope they will sponsor this again next year. Maybe the weather will be better.
