We are leaving in an hour for Hastings on the border with Wisconsin.

Trying for a hundo today, with a nice 50/50 mix of gravel and country roads.

I took my Twenty through city streets to choral rehearsal. My gigantic bell is great for alerting people, but it rattles constantly, sending rings along constantly. They're not as loud as when I ring manually. I'm not sure if this is a feature or a bug. Maybe I shouldn't look into fixing it.

I got a flat half mile from home on the way back, so I walked it home. Gotta put a tool kit together for this bike.

Nice pics. EBH, a compliment coming from northbend is worth something because to judge by his ride pics he lives in a spectacular part of the world.

JJS, is that a monarch butterfly? (The colors seem just a bit faded but that could be a trick of the pic.) Monarchs have been scarce in New England this summer. Possible causes include development along their migration path destroying native milkweed, and introduction of pesticides.

It is a monarch Jim. The faded color is from the lighting. I rode by this little guy and went back to take its picture. It was in the road and I (very gently) moved it to the side of the road. I tried several times to capture the brightness of its wings but the wind, lighting and the bug were not cooperating. Now that you mention it, I haven't seen very many this year.

Riding the levee road ... near the confluence of the Hirose and Natori rivers in Sendai. Market gardeners use the flood plain.

This is the last bridge but one before the sea and mouth of the Natori River. The adjacent area was not very nice after the 2011 tsunami.

Cut work on Tuesday to enjoy the beautiful start of Fall, took the Mrs. to the Duke Farm Estate in Hillsborough



Coasted around the grounds and discovered some hidden treasures



After a picnic lunch, we headed over to the Conservatory



And enjoyed the Orchid Display





And found a proper spot for a bicycle photo



The Estate is open to the public everyday except Wednesday, it's free, has about 12 miles of flawlessly paved bicycle paths and a rather nice collection of well preserved turn of the century buildings and garden-scapes...NJ's answer to our neighbors Central Park

I had the day off and had a great time riding in CT. 68.75 miles on the Gitane, with 2454' elevation gain. I rode in Sterling-Plainfield-Canterbury-Scotland-Windham-Willimantic-Lebanon-Franklin-Yantic-Norwich-Preston City-Voluntown; All in CT.

Windham green had some really cool buildings.

I made a last minute decision to change my route and add a stop to Lebanon, where I had never been and I was glad I did! Lebanon had the largest village green I have seen in New England. It is over a mile long and has a dirt path snaking through it in a big oval.



I think they plant crops in the middle.

This stable was adjacent to Governor Jonathan Trumbull's house. It looks almost palatial.

I really wanted to go for a ride yesterday, but ended up working. I wanted to go for a ride early, but work didn't cooperate again. Finally around 3 PM, I managed to roll out the door for a leisurely 34 mile ride. Climbed around 2050 feet over the distance. It was a great day for a ride and I would have loved to gone for a longer ride, but lack of daylight and family obligations kept the ride short.

Last night, my wife and I rode to Brooklyn to attend an old timey and bluegrass jamboree. The music was most excellent, but I didn't take pictures there. I took one shot in Brooklyn. Here, the city cleared out a parking spot to create bike parking. I saw a few of these spaces.

My Daughter visited for 2 weeks prior to her senior year @ SPU in Seattle. She was thoughtful enough to bring her riding gear and I provided a jersey that was too small for me and to big for her. Anyway, this is on the Mt Vernon MUP from DC to guess where!

My daily commute is on the right. This was the first time I rode the 'Nago in over a year. New on it are the pedals and seat post from DD as well as a Rigina CX/CXS 7spd which shifted very well. I typically use a Brooks but this is Italian after all.

Jim: Very true - some of the guys in the CPO Mess can give me a run for my money; Gregg in particular can be pretty fast on that passed-down klunker MTB (his assessment, not mine)! And Fern on his old (and huge) Nishiki the same.

Patrick: Nice to see the Superissimo (it certainly is that) completely period correct now. It looks fantastic! And great that you got to ride with your daughter while she visited. She should have no problems finding riding groups up in WA - talk about a cycling-friendly town
