I put the hurt on a couple of younger guys at the end, finished strong and beat my goal time of 8 minutes so it's all good.
Some random guy parks his truck two miles from the finish and hands out cups of beer. I didn't partake but the guy is generous nonetheless and it adds to the ambiance of the event in a positive way for those who do. Tends to put a smile on everyone's face for the finish line photo.

It's coming along, thanks for asking. I can walk fairly well though I still have to wear my bulky hinged brace as ordered by the surgeon, especially when I go to sleep. It's all physical therapy from here on out to get my muscles firing normally again and regain flexibility. I was also told to lose a bunch of weight so I'm going carb and sugar free as best I can. It shouldn't be too long before I'm cleared to ride bikes slow and easy
I've taken up knitting in the meantime.

(yesterday) I cyclocross-ed it up on the horse trails for the first time this year. Steep climbs, gnarly muddy descents, f yeah.
Your cog is slipping.
Today I answered the phone at the shop (which is something I rarely do these days) and had to deal with a woman in New York who was very upset that the Cinelli Tipo Pista her son bought online arrived with no air in the tires. I can't make this **** up.

Was the bike shipped via air mail or ground? If it was ground that is probably why! That is why when I need air in my online bike I request air mail only!

Today I did a little over 30 miles, and PR'ed on a couple climbs despite feeling pretty sluggish -- thought about pulling the plug halfway up the climb I was going for, but did a Jens and kept pushing to the top.

Sometimes I think it might be cool to work part time in a bike shop at some point. Then I overhear conversation such as this one that remind me how awful retail is.

USPS hasn't had air mail for years, but they have a first class stamp commemorating it.

Placed an order with Performance for in-store pickup on Tuesday figuring it would be easier and quicker than waiting for delivery. Friday, order still hasn't been processed. I miss ordering stuff from good shops.

I'm surprised Phil Wood doesn't make a coaster brake hub. Think about it.

Also Chrs King doesn't make a fixed gear hub which would probably sell like gangbusters. I know they are famous for the ring drive and the beehive and yadda yadda but a fixed hub would be so easy to do.

Yesterday I rode my Parallax 52 miles. It was mostly flat, just a few little hills. I kept a pretty strong pace most of the ride.
This is close to my longest fixed gear ride, and by far my longest on that bike. It was very rewarding. I'd like to do a ride like that about once a week. I ride a bike every day, but usually only from 5 to 15 miles. If I could do more like yesterday's, I think I'd be in phenomenal shape by the end of summer.

I wonder if Chris is kinda like "get off my lawn" about Portland hipsters on fixed gears or something. I agree it's super weird that they don't make track hubs

Maybe? I can see that being the case but still you could make mega bucks on them and what company wouldn't want to do that with very little work?

Chris King isn't about making mega bucks with very little work just because he can. He's about making super rad, high quality components because he can. Probably just doesn't want to waste time with something so relatively boring, when it'd take time away from working on more unique and helpful newer components. It's not always about the money, especially for great companies like that.

All the good intentions in the world are nothing if the company doesn't turn a profit. It is always about the money.
And very few parts on a bike are as boring as a headset. I'd argue that Cane Creek makes much more interesting and useful products.

My DA track hubs are smooooooooth. But I wouldn't want to deal with loose ball on the road. I honestly can't say I've noticed a difference between any of the hubs I've used for road and street FG bikes (Formula, IRO, Surly, Gran Compe, maybe a couple others)

Goddamnit I just blew a tube...now my ears are ringing. I haven't blown a tube is so long. Older tube with a new tire because the dang rim is a slightly deeper section so the 32mm valve tubes I have didn't fit and I wasn't going to go looking for a tube for skinny tires I probably don't have anymore. Luckily the bike is not for me and I still have a stuck seatpost so no rush just painful on the old ears.

Today I got a new PR avg. speed on my FG interval workout: 20.0 mph for 10.8 miles. I went a little shorter than my usual 13.5 miles, but I was GETTIN' ON IT for 32.5 minutes. I think my previous best was 19.5 mph, so I'm just making little incremental gains. Feeling stoked about it though.
I really need to put my 49 tooth chain ring back on and head to a really flat, long road where I can do about 30 miles fixed. Like a time trial, except not on one of those silly overspecialized bikes.. If wind is calm, I bet I could average 24 mph. The workout mentioned above includes lots of little hills.
