1972 Bottecchia Professional
Hi,
I have a 1972 Bottecchia Professional, with Columbus SL tubing, Campagnolo Nuovo Record gruppo, Cinelli Campione del Mondo handlebars and stem, Regina Oro chain and freewheel, original paint and decals. The frame size is 23.5” (a little less than 60 cm), with 700c Super Champion rims. It’s been sitting in our garage since 1981, so I recently added new Campagnolo gum hoods and Panasonic gumwall tires.
Any thoughts on what this may be worth will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all,
Camille

Nice bike. These had one of the nicer decal sets with black and white checkered bands and the great Bottecchia name on the seat and down tubes. Easily sourced now if someone wanted them I guess. But the bike looks a little bland without them.
With the great Campy NR group including the brakes which is awesome, I would put this in the $700-800 range. Vintage bike sales seem really soft as of late, so anything over $600 would be a good price.

Thank you for your input! It’s very helpful. I’ve tried giving this bike away to the kids (now adults), but no interest. Too much old-school vibe, I suppose.
This bike came without the usual Bottecchia decal set. I’ve seen several others from 1972 that also came this way. Vai a capire…
This bike was my sole transportation until I was 25 – hence the clinchers instead of the tubulars it came with. It also came with Universal model 61 brakes, which I replaced with Campagnolo. The bike was always too tall for me, and at my age a Bianchi Milano is more my speed.
Thanks again!

It really depends on how you sell it and your patience...it has some nice parts, but bottechias usually aren't terribly desireable. On eBay...if you market it well, have a solid seller rating and are willing to be patient...maybe $800? Net 700 or so. On CL...it really depends on your market; in a good one maybe 600ish? Maybe 700? Seems a bit high to me.

...I wish I lived closer to you. The best Bottechia I've been able to find for myself here is one of the tres tubi frames they made for a while in the late 80's.....I still love it, but it's not on the same level with your professional. What the other guys said on pricing. Less on Craigslist. For some reason the market seems to be a little down, and winter's coming on, which slows down the CL sales here starting about November. Might be different there.

That's a really nice bike & I would disagree with anyone here that thinks it's undesirable. I bought one just like that brand new back around 1972 and, it was probably the best bike I ever owned. Mine only weighed a tad bit over 20 lbs. Loved it. Price it high but, be willing to take less.

That's a $600 plus bike locally and a slow sale. Worth considerably more in a larger city and/or eBay. This bike is very clean and desirable; it should go near the top of the valuation range.
