2) The cadence magnet is positioned a lot closer to the center of the spider. The magnet placement I used for the S975 would not trigger the Riken, and with no cadence data, the power read zero. My frame has a BB30 BB with GXP adapters and internal Di2. Can't use the BB ring, can't use the cable guide magnet. However, in the magnet bag is a new penny-sized flat magnet. I was able to stack that onto a standard magnet glued to the frame and get it close enough to the spider to trigger the switches.
shovel - I don't know if this would work with your setup, but there's a seller on Fleabay who sells magnets that attach magnetically (whoda thunk it?) to your pedal spindle. They're stronger than the Garmin magnets - I had to position my cadence sensor farther away to avoid wacky readings. I've converted my bikes to these, and they all work fine.

The magnet has to be fixed to the frame. Attaching a magnet to the pedal would never trigger the switch in the power meter spider as they spin together.

Also, my pedal spindles are titanium which is non-ferrous.

Understood. I'm unfamiliar with the Quarg, obviously.

The cadence sensor is in the crank, so think the opposite of a computer sensor.

So you guys know how the old Powertap hubs had carbon windows? So, it's basically a hub-shell with CNC'ed cutouts? Well, basically, every one of the the metal "bridges" going from one side of the hub to the right has cracked. Can you believe that? I don't even know if I should ride it anymore, the hub is basically splitting down the middle.

I'm so done with Powertap. This will be the 3rd time I've had to send it back. I'm sure they'll cover the repairs and blah blah blah, but I'm selling it as soon as it comes back to me.

Which versions are considered "old"? I've got a Pro+, wondering if this is something I should keep an eye out for.

It started out as the Wired Comp from 2-3 years ago. They stopped making wired components so the last warranty issue I had to send it in for netted me some wireless internals, but the hub shell stayed the same.

Is wired SRM still the way to go for people with small budgets? Or have they stopped making stuff (i.e. batteries) for them? Also, it looks like some of the Quarq are on Ebay for around $700 too...

I would recommend the SRM over the Quarq. Too many problems with the second generation electronics.

for $300-400 more, you can get a wireless SRM. There was a Dura Ace unit (with PC7) that was recently sold for $1300 on ebay. You figure you can probably sell the PC7 for $350.

not as rare as one'd think. Pops up about once a month on average. Just need to set up an ebay alert. The unit i was talking about was on there for 2-3 days before someone did bought it BIN.

Back when RX was selling his, there were 2 other units at that price. The down side is that you most often will need to buy crankarms as they may very well come in sizes you aren't interested in.

I got a wired Hollowgram SRM w/ PowerControl V for $460.

Battery replacement and calibration is fairly easy to do yourself. And yes you can still buy batteries.

I'd prefer a wireless, but even a good deal wireless SRM would cost three times as much.

Doesn't this take some soldering skills? Nice deal none the less.

Can you just change the crankarms? Isn't the drive side all one unit?

The second hand market for specially machined dura ace crank arm is not that large, especially if you want an odd size such as 165mm

Ok, I have about a months worth of data with my power meter. I haven't really done any structured training, just collecting and testing at this point. I've got a question on IF/NP/AP and FTP. Should it be possible for me on an hour ride to have a NP > FTP (which is IF > 1)? On an 1.25 hour ride the IF is 1.1, for the peak 60 minutes of that ride, the IF is 1.134. Does this sound like my FTP is too low? Right now I have it set to my best 20min AP * .95. Should I take a day or two of rest, and then redo a 20 minute TT? Thanks for any help.

It wasn't close to steady state. I also don't feel that hour was anywhere close to my limits, just a couple intervals and a brisk pace.

Really starting to look like I phoned in the 20min TT test.
