Do these brakes require cable ferrules?

I was doing a tune up for a friend. His bike has Shimano RSX brakes. It seems I could only fit a cable ferrule on one of the brakes. Kind of. And I have a jar full of ferrules of slightly different sizes. I didn't have anymore ferrules that size. So are these brakes intended to be used with cable ferrules or not? Brake action feels fine and is not spongy. Thank you.

I use ferrules when they fit in the caliper's barrel adjuster and don't when they don't.

You don't "need" ferrules on spiral brake housing.

I do take the time to get the housings square (Knipex, grinder, file) and open (scribe pin) with no burrs.

Agree with others' responses.

Wrap an electrical tape around the wire strands, if you're still not at peace. It works just fine.

Ok. I have had cable housing strip the plastic from the inner metal before, so I was just being cautious. Thank you.,
