Mileage, Times Out, etc. Goals

Do you set goals for yourself as far as miles, times on the bike, etc? Before this month I told myself I had to average 10 miles a day for the month of May. Did that rhyme? I'm going to easily hit that as middle school ball is over and summer travel ball doesn't start until next week so I was able to get in some consistent rides. Ten miles a day would generally be around 300 miles per month. Sometimes I'll do zero miles, at times 20, 30 or just 10. I even made myself a little Endomondo challenge for the miles.

My goal is 100% bicycle commuting, which for me is 12 miles each work day. It should work out to around 2,000 miles for the year, plus or minus. I don't do much other riding, except some short grocery runs and an occasional weekend ride when I have been on business travel all week, etc.

I'm shooting for 5000 miles this year and 150,000 feet of climbing. So far I'm right on schedule.

Commuting for me is 14 miles one way using the shortest route. I can't dedicate that amount of time on the bike each day else commuting more than I do would work. I coach ball, run a "Plan B" business, etc. and have too many things that need to be attended to right after a work day normally ends.
