Tag-A-Long into a Trailer
Has anyone successfully converted a tag-a-long into a single wheel trailer. If so, any pics or building instruction would be of help. Also are there any drawbacks to using one for this purpose.

They are rather heavy. An aluminium kiddie trailer would be lighter with a lower center of gravity if you can live with the width.
The local Play It Again Sports store has a cargo trailer that's designed like a tag-along. It has lots of loading area and can use panniers. Again... heavy with a high center of gravity when you top-load it.

I just finished (except for the attachment to the bike) converting a child double trailer into a small flatbed for touring. Total width is 24 inches from the outside of each wheel. It has 20 inch tires and seem quite sturdy now.
And no, I haven't tried what you are asking.

There's one at the bottom of this thread:

I've seen one locally, stripped down with two pairs of Roughtote garbage bins bolted to the sides.

Apart from that one, I have seen one with a rear rack in its normal place (above the rear wheel) and another rear rack in lieu of the seat. That rack was placed rear side front and bolted through the bottom bracket. As far as I remember, both rack platforms were at approximately the same level. It allowed for 4 panniers and maybe attachment of something long on top of the bike.
In my humble opinion, it works, but you would be much better getting a 2-wheel cargo trailer. If you want to save money, look for a low end or used child trailer that doesn't have a frame structure through the top. That way, you could convert it into a roofless trailer if needed.
