Why do my single speed chain ring bolts spin?

I have some cheaper Sugino track bolts and a couple of them spin (they don't tighten) but they aren't stripped.

What causes this? Would the models with the knurled bottoms solve my problem?

You sure the nuts aren't too long? If they stick through the spider and chainring, you won't get any clamp force.

Aren't all ss chainring bolts standard length? Only two of the bolts spin, the other three are OK

is the chainring loose on the spinners?

do you use a screw driver on the nut side?

This is the new Origin 8 144 bcd chainring I was installing and the bolt circle holes seem kind of deep-that maybe the problem, but that would put them out of business if Origin make faulty chainrings?

They're not faulty.

Just reverse the ring so that the recess is on the 'inside'. If the chainring bolts/nuts are still too long just marginally, you can easily file down the nut part so that it will clear, and tighten down.

A lot of times the threads develop more friction than the hole they're sitting in, so turning the bolt with a hex wrench just spins everything. You need a spanner to hold on to the nut, like this one from Park: https://www.biketoolsetc.com/index.cg...tem_id=PA-CNW2
