I got wet riding home last night, but was pretty comfy actually, cycling cap under helmet to keep the head 'dry', ikea poncho over merino sweater to keep the rest of me 'dry' from overhead persistent drizzle, and road-found Body Glove water shoes, so I don't have to worry if my feet get soaked (they did).
I'm driving for the next few days. Sure, I could ride, but <cue the Danny Glover meme>

So my last remaining urchin is on semester break the last week of Jan and he's heading out of town with some friends, so the wife and I will be empty nesting. What to do? Off to Napa!
So the curious thing... I thought it might be fun to rent some e-bikes and toot around checking out wineries and just generally goofing off.
$90 to rent an ebike for a day. (or a road bike, for that matter). NINETY buxx. to rent a $3,000 bike for 5-8 hours. Meanwhile, I'm renting a "premium" car (nissan maxima or similar, apparently) for a whopping $36 a day. A $50,000 car for a third of the price of a $3,000 bike.
How does that even make sense?
Meanwhile you can rent a jump bike for about $4 per hour, if there's one where you want it.

eek I just signed up for the Solvang double 
I got two months to get more long rides in. It will be my first double or over 150miles for that matter

@tunavic what time are you going to start? I'm thinking 6:30 or so. First hour should be kinda fast going down hill right? Hotel is in Solvang so I get 7 miles bonus + navagation issues likely to occur.

yah I need some sleeping in time. We'll arrive figure 11pm Friday night unless wife can get a half day off and leave right after kiddo gets out of school.
Looking at the profile, slight 1000ft climb for the first hour before it starts to drop into the valley. Good way to warm up pending the weather
Sunrise is at 7am sunset 7:12pm. I'll be interested to see how I pace the 2nd half or later third. Ride time wise should be pretty similar to BWR

no looks like it stays on the 135 south, at least I won't have to climb up that steeper Harris grade hill like I did on my Norcal - socal tour. I also won't have a loaded bike either so that should help a wee bit
the reg century is on the March 9th and place is booked up like a library. I'd have to stay new SB for a reasonable hotel.

I dare say they're missing out by NOT going on the harris grade and down south of Lompoc on Santa Rosa Rd... that was some gorgeous riding

Well. I rode, and even outside this week. Was 55 and dry yesterday, so Ness and I took a super-gentle ride into the mouintains. The rest has been tough; wrapping riding around my work travel schedule is proving tougher than usual, even.

Been riding the new wheels and road tires on the Niner, but planning on some dirt Friday, so put the gravel wheels back on. I had realigned the brake calipers for the new wheels. I had to add a single shim on both front and back gravel wheels to get the discs to align. Now I can swap between the wheelsets with no brake adjustments needed.

I'll take a picture of them.
For gravel I'm using Schwalbe G-one all arounds - 38mm. They are what came with the bike. Back one is about worn out, so about to replace it with the same. They seem to work for what I do.
