Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". Smaller chainrings for FSA adventure crankset.

The jist is, I'm not a good climber, and thinking I could benefit from just a bit more granny gearing on my gravel bike. Obviously I need to work at climbing and plan on it lol. I have the FSA Vero Pro Adventure, 46/30T crankset, with an 11-34t cassette. I know it's pretty compact already. Curious if there is a 44/28t chainring set out there. So far I haven't had much luck in my searches via google etc.. Thanks for any help or input.

What about an 11-36 or 11-40 cassette? It will work with many rear derailleurs with a road link

I agree. I had the LBS swap the stock 11-32 with an 11-36 on my Crossrip and it works great with the SORA rear derailleur with no road link required. My bike came with FSA 32/48 crankset and the added low-end was just what I wanted for hilly North Georgia riding.

What bike do you have? If it's Shimano drivetrain you could just swap out the rear derailleur for an SLX or XT, add a wolftooth tanpan and go 11-42 or 11-46 on the rear.

Sorry, forgot a few details. Fuji, jari. Shimano tiagra 4700 rear derailleur. Just put together a 650b wheelset with the 11-34 cassette, same as my 700c wheelset. Which is why I was leaning towards the chainrings for the crank
but some good info in here.

Can't go smaller than a 30T on the 90BCD inner spot on the Omega Adventure. MTB chainrings below 30T are usually 74BCD. Bigger cassette is the only easy option.

Tiagra 4700 is 10 speed. I recently did this on a hybrid and it works very well. I used a Wolftooth roadlink and a 40 tooth one up expander kit. The 42 tooth kit will work ok too, just depends on how much more gearing you want or need. The expander cog sets will only work with certain types of Shimano MTB cassettes. You can also just use the 11-36 cassette with your current derailleur for just a little lower gearing.

42 tooth cassette expander cog set

40 tooth Oneup expander cog set, plus installation instructions

11-36 Shimano XT 10 speed cassette

Wolftooth roadlink

Or buy an mtb double crankset. Something like a 38-28t slx crank.

Thanks man. Road link and new cassette(s) may be easiest. Would be nice to just be able to use the hg500 11-42 cassette but not sure if it would work as most reading points to 11-40 for roadlink. Appreciate the responses.

my gravel bike has a mtb double on it. 42/28 with a 11-32 cassette. Works pretty well for me. I kinda wish I had a 36 low gear on the back for extended climbs when I'm tired, but that is a rare situation
