87 Panasonic DX-4000

Hi All,
Looking for some help. I have a 87 Panasonic Dx-4000 that is pretty original, except for handle bar, stem and saddle. I'd like to try to put it back close to the original. What handle bar, stem and saddle should be looking for.

Thanks. I have the catalog page. Just trying to find the right stuff. Handle bars are Sakae SR CTC, Stem is just Sakae SR, but what model? Saddle is Selie Italia Mundialita. Mine is like the one in the picture above. I can't post a picture yet.

Hi,
So what does a Sakae SR CTB drop bar and Sakae SR stem look like? Still can't post a picture.

Thanks,

Hey Co_Hoya,
Thanks for the help. The site was telling me I must have 10 post before posting a picture, but tried anyhow. I see your in Colorado. I lived there for 39 years, retired from Oracle (Storagetek/SUN/Oracle) and move to Delaware. Used to live in Broomfield, CO

So that my bike above. Would like to change the handle bar and stem, already ordered new Shimano 105 pedals. The spec's callout Arays anodized dark grey rims, but mine are gold anodized. Need to find the correct saddle too.

Thanks again.

any stem or handlebars will look the same as the one in the catalog since they are sorta plane, pick out a stem that is the correct length for your fit also might want to ask this guy he just bought an 86 ^^

I have an 84 DX-2000 too. Original (un-restored) other than handle bar tape and upgraded brake levers and saddle. Running with 27" x 1" Panasonic Panaracer tires.

Still need to change out the handle bar a stem on the DX-4000.

Tried to attach pictures of the 84 DX-2000, but still can't.

The thing I've noticed about the bikes from the 80s is that the stems are SHORT, and the bars are NARROW, compared to what I am used to from later bikes. My 1989 Schwinn Circuit with 22" frame came with a 90mm stem and 40cm bar. The 1982 Lotus I'm currently restoring - 23" frame - came with an 80mm stem!

In both cases I found longer stems of the same model as the original - a Cinelli 1A for the Schwinn, and an SR Royal for the Lotus.

If the original spec fits you, I think its really cool to see a bike in its original form. If original spec means bars that are uncomfortably narrow or a stem that is too short, then maybe using components that fit you and have the same look as original would be a good idea?

Exactly. It's easy to find either the same model of stem in a different length, or one that looks the same (e.g. Cinelli 1A, SR Royal, and Nitto Dynamics all look very similar), and the same is true of handlebars.

I did manage to find a saddle for the Panasonic DX-4000. I got the Italia Mundialita saddle, but the blue suede. Matches the bike really well.
