Shimano 600 Brake Return Spring

Hi all,

I was removing the rear brake from my bike and I mistakenly turned the adjusting screw to do it... Well the return spring snapped, surprisingly easily actually, and now my brake is useless.

Please tell me I can buy a replacement spring somewhere. I haven't had much luck googling for a replacement. Am I out of luck?

I am not the smartest man...

Shimano is not much for small parts such as this. You could get the whole brake for $15-25 on ebay.

If there is a bike co-op/nonprofit near you they probably have either the brake or spring in their used parts collection.

Shimano lists 2 different part #'s EV-BR-6400-0818E.pdf (shimano.com) so not sure what the difference is but found this one. Shimano NOS Bicycle Ultegra Brake Caliper Arch Spring | eBay
Just use the part #'s and do a search and you might find more options and better prices. The 7400 Dura Ace brakes look like they use the same shaped spring as well but use a different part # so can't say for sure. EV-BR-7200_7210 -DURA-ACE EX-0296F.pdf (shimano.com) Maybe some other models use the same spring. You might even be able to substitute an old Campy spring with a little bending. Campagnolo SR/RE/CH/AT/CE/VL "D" Caliper Return Spring | - Ben's Cycle

This is what I am hoping to avoid!

Thank you very much for this parts list! It will be very helpful.

I will keep my eyes peeled for this part online and replace the brake as a last resort.

Thank you all for your suggestions!

I wouldn't be shocked if most of Shimano's single pull caliper brakes of the era used the same spring for any given reach even if the part numbers were different. Finding something at a coop like a BR-Z57 shouldn't be too difficult.
