Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i've always liked pronouncing it "putch" like butch. when all else fails, the most amusing pronunciation is the best.

puk, or pook either one. I have a Marco Polo and my wife has a Pacifica. I still ride the Marco Polo all the time.

Connie Carpenter - who used to ride for the Puch women's team - pronounced it Pook.

Trivia Question: who was the sponsor of the men's counterpart to the Puch team?

Would that have been the Puch Yergutzout Gürlymahn Team?

Actually, I'm racking my brain, and I can't remember any high profile men's teams that rode on Puch... maybe an early version the East Side Wheelmen before they became 7-Eleven?

And for what it's worth, I used to work in a shop that sold Puch, and we always pronounced it "Pook". But that could easily have been a tomato / toMAHto kind of thing. I was only 14 at the time, so I just went along with how everyone else pronounced it.

Sorry guys, but all your suggestions on how to pronounce Puch is wrong.

Correct pronounciation is PUCH!

Just kidding, but it is German and the P is a P, the U an U And the ch is the same as the first sound of Shut up. So the correct pronounciation of Puch is very close to your push!

Based on my 3 years of getting C's in high school German, I've always pronounced it "poosh". However, if I remember German correctly, "ch" is also pronounced like the "k" sound in certain dialects, so "pook" absolutely could be and probably is, correct.

From my high school German, it would be Pook with a hard K at the end.

In the first 10 seconds of this video, Puch is pronounced by a native. This particular "ch" sound does not exist in English.

While we are at it, these names are pronounced with the similar "ch" :
Bach - as in Johann Sebastian
Mach - as in Ernst - Mach 1, etc. (necessary for the BF speedsters)

Sram in our language, Slovenian language, means "Shame"
Speaking of language, ... the dude was called actually "Puh", but he had a factory in Osterreich - Graz so the name ended sounding German which is "Puch"

But yeah, don't mind me, i'm just acting as a smartass.

This is the only correct post in this thread. When I was stationed in Germany during VN, I spoke German fairly fluently, but with a Bavarian accent which I still have.
