I like it. I don't think I've seen a 4140 chrome moly tubing sticker before (as opposed to say 4130 chrome moly) but apparently it's a real thing,

Mocked up with proper pedals, saddle, post, and wheels.
It would be helpful if someone could confirm the seat post diameter on this frame. The post on it was too small. I've got a 26.6 in there now, might take something larger.
Top tube has some cable clip chew marks. No dents though and it looks like it might be chrome under that paint. Needs some attention.

Frame dimensions are are kind of odd. 21" CTT seat tube and 22.5" CTC top tube. I normally ride 22.5" TT frames but they usually have ~22" seat tubes.
Will this fit my short legs/long torso? Not sure. Must tear down first.

Yes, it's a Miyata P-1 Professional, circa 1972-1974. The serial number will narrow down the range.
Edit: During this period Miyata was building with Tange tubesets. Champion #1-#3 all used the same seat tube, with a nominal 26.8mm inner diameter. Standard clearance allowance would result in 26.6mm post. However, Mayata typically performed a ream/hone of the seat tube and 26.8mm posts are common. It could have come with 26.6mm or 26.8mm.
The wheels are not proper. This was a racing model and came with a tubular wheelset equipped with large flange hubs.

Some of the Japanese bikes from that era had crazy long top tubes compared to seat tubes. I've got a 53cm ST ctt, 58cm TT ctc in my backlog right now. Oddest one I have is 50cm ST, 57cm TT.

Thanks for the seat post and tubing info! The wheels were here on the shelf. The set it came with were nothing special. Not planning to run tubulars but will keep an eye out for a wheelset with early high flange Shimano.
When I said mocked up with proper parts I meant reasonably era correct. The seat, post, and pedals are wrong as well. I'm pretty sure it needs KKT Pro Ace rat traps, SR Royal 26.6/26.8 post , and an unobtanium Fujita saddle. I actually need 2x Fujitas to get one on my Fuji Newest. Feel free to PM if anyone has that stuff available

Top tube before and after. The majority of the funk is out of the paint and the battle scars look better in person. Most parts are hung.

Wow, VERY similar to my Volkscycle Mark 100 lugs. It was also chrome under the paint, same dropouts IIRC, and same component spec.? Same bar end shifters and all. Eery! Mine even had the same brakes, though in the older Dura Ace name, which was changed to Tourney. Any connection between the two brands that you know of T-Mar?,,,,BD

Very cool! I had one of these that I picked up as a frame / fork off eBay a few years ago. I really liked the ride, but it was on the smaller side for me, and the chrome was only so-so. I wound up putting it back up on eBay to make room for my current squeeze - a 1976 Centurion Semi-Pro.
That decal is probably the remains of another 4140 decal. I actually did up graphics files for my decals, as several of them were in pretty poor shape, and I was considering repainting the frame. If anyone is interested in having them reproduced, I have them as vector based illustrator Miyata-Professional--Combin by c79murphy, on Flickrfiles.
Regarding the long top tubes -- until the late 70s - early 80s, almost all production frames from a given maker were made with a single size of top tube. 49cm frame? Here's your 57cm top tube. 65cm frame? Here's your 57cm top tube. They would just use a shorter stem on the small frames, and a longer one on the larger frames. (This is actually good for me, as I need a tall frame, with a short top tube to fit my long legs / short torso body.)

The stock cables on the Miyata are interesting. The derailleur cable that came with 1st gen Dura-Ace bar ends is teflon coated:
Are these ball end brake cable ends Dura-Ace specific? Can they be replaced with a common road brake cable? Haven't run into this style before.
The plan is to save these off the bike and run new cables. Probably modern teflon derailleur to match the original look.
