I ended up finding my fiance the perfect bike a few weeks ago. It's a 1989 Trek 970 and it gets bonus points for being her desired colors.
Seller's Photo (before)
Stripped the bike apart to clean and re grease
Finish Product with her preferred components
The bike rides awesome around the block, but she hasn't ridden it yet. I really dig the pink in the headbadge which is the original, non faded color, along with "USA", which was covered up.

I put modern shifters on it for ease of use.

How can you tell they're really anodized if they're not purple?

I gave my Litage its first shake down ride after a total rebuild. The 9s indexing sunrace shifters aren't that great but will try a replacing the sunrace freewheel with a shimano first before maybe going back to 7s accushift, that means other wheels too.
Needs a Turbo seat and chunky nobbies at least just for photos

Bar Ends Forever
Picked this up for $80 yesterday. Not sure how old the frame is (can't tell cause it's been repainted), but it's got some nice old mtb parts, which is why I bought it. XTR front and rear derailleur/hub, nukeproof front hub, mavic 217 sup rims, ritchey crankset/seatpost, XT brakes, san marco squadra saddle. A lot of these parts will be going to my IBOC.

That's a good point.
Purple was the most seen in the mags. When I bought my CNC parts BITD (via phone and credit card or snail mail and check) I always got silver or black.
Those bar ends were great, the clamp was a solution to crimping their super light hyperlite handlebars.

Frame is repaint? Don't recall DBR in anything close to that.

As long as you stay in the Suntour ecosystem, it'll all work together nicely. AFAIK, different cable pulls between MTB and road shifters has only come recently. TBH, I'm not sure why Suntour went with mixed spacing for Accushift, other than to try and exclude Shimano FW and cassettes from their ecosystem.

Yeah frame's repainted for sure. Can't find a serial number anywhere either. No shifters, the guy was just running it as single speed with xtr derailleurs and a 9 speed cassette lol. The levers are tektros, they seem to work fine.

I am now the proud owner of the 1987 Cimarron that wrk101 showed upthread, the 17" one.
The bike is very cool; I am still settling into the mtn bike sizing and wish I had an 18" to compare this one to. I don't have the seatpost extended a whole lot though, so likely this is just right, and I do ride a 52cm road bike. Mrs Al says it feels great to her, and her legs are at least as long as mine. She says the slightly sloping top tube is just as easy as a step through frame.
I don't see doing a whole lot to this bike other than cleaning it up and finding the right tires.
I will post pics when this one is really shiny.
Thanks Bill!

Here's my '88 Bianchi Forte (middle of the lineup of 5 MTBs for that year), after a few minor changes. It was pretty much all Shimano Exage Mountain components, heavily worn, so I've changed or at least removed the worn stuff.
It's funny, the headset and stem are both unbranded, but still very decent. Also the Celeste flat bars weighed around 5 pounds it felt like, so they had to go. 😉
I didn't grab a pic yet, but these SR hubs say King Kong on the black plastic dust seals. The only reference I found to that, was that they were popular with early BMXers.
Boy, black really doesn't photograph well, even in the sun. 🙄

I picked this up on fb marketplace today. Im assuming it's a Mongoose? If it is I don't know where it fits in there hierarchy of bikes, what tubing, year.
Seem original except the tires/seat. Has all Deore in good working order and should clean up well, Araya RM20 rims. Bought it for parts but but if it's a good level of bike may restore?

I've spent hours searching the net tonight here Think I've got it, it's a 89 Iboc Pro one level below the Team.
Tange double butted the seat stays are just fork legs welded back there. John Tomac rode Mongoose at the time. Yeti rebranded this frame as there own.
Been riding it around the farm too, handles great can really fling it around aggressively I like it and been wanting a 26 inch bike to use as a proper mtb.

WV is not flat..
Picked up this Paramount PDG Series 70 last week. Needs a complete rebuild, but someone put a good bit of money in the upgrades.
