Forgotten BMX movie from the 1970's

I remember a BMX movie from the mid 1970s where the theme was that a poor kid couldn't afford a fancy and strong BMX like the other kids in the neighborhood... Somehow a local man made him one by bending and welding tubes and the kid was able to compete in a race or ride around with the other kids. That movie always stuck with me, but I can't remember which one it was... anyone know?

The movie I'm looking for was on TV in 1977, not 86.

I just bought a copy off Amazon and watched it a few nights ago... I don't want to say it was in HD, but the quality was supringly good from what I remember my VHS version being.

Not sure which one you're looking for, but there was also BMX Bandits. From Australia with a 16 year old Nicole Kidman.

I think I saw this recently if not a full length movie.

Kid meets other kids, he is riding Schwinn type bike with bmx tires, they make fun of him and challenge to race. He loses, goes back and starts building his bike with dad, working for parts. Enters race with all jerky kids and is beating them. One of them crash and he stops to help vs winning. They all become friends.

If that one I think it posted on retro bmx riders on FB. Is on YouTube.

OK, I never realized how crappy it was for some people. I was as poor as dirt, and I could never afford a BMX bike when I was a kid,...but the racism is something I totally forgot about. How ignorant of me, and how eye opening this video is.

Holy cow, after watching this movie again after decades, I was cringing at Bart Conner's attempt at acting. He should have just stuck to gymnastics.

I'm looking for 1977 or around that time. Not in the 80's.

I appreciate the help, and not trying to be a d!ck, but BMX Bandits was in 1983... but yeah that's awesome to have found this, it shows the sport when I first got into it.

It was his dad --- I just watched it . Pretty cheesy, but its the 70's .

The main character is a 4'9 Hispanic child (who looks to be about 12) who is wanting to compete in a race with the 15 or 16 year old bully who is a foot taller and 50 lbs heavier.

I guess its about as realistic as any Hallmark channel love story

Damn the 80's must have been so cool. Gotta see all of these, only browsed through em quickly but I love the vibe.

Racism was still pretty bad but I've seen both sides being half. My last name is Mexican. But I am 6'0 and light skinned. I get flack online sometimes for my last name, you can always tell by how by how people approach you or comment, they think you should be stupid or not have knowledge about "their" subject. And it has increased with the current president making them feel empowered. Yet, I tried to like him initially and do like some of what he does, just not the extremism (of both sides) or the petty name calling.

On the other hand, I've had Mexicans or others think Im white and act weird around me or think I'm a cop. Because I'm white looking and legit, and carry myself well? Is what it is, racial pride is ignorance or a low IQ reflection IMO.

The 60s were worse. Putting these things on muscle bikes for kids. I would buy on if it came up though 😀, part of history. They sell for $500+.
