Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Touch screen phone getting damp in jersey pocket...any ways to help?

I have a Droid that I keep in my middle jersey/jacket pocket. Since it's gotten colder and I've been wearing multiple layers (with the jersey or jacket being the outermost one), my phone's screen gets a little damp with condensation making it difficult to use the screen during the ride (pulled over, of course) and shortly after the ride. I've put the phone in a zip lock baggie before when I was anticipating rain and the bag was full of condensation as well even when it didn't rain. I did not have the problem all summer (with just a jersey, no base layer, and plenty of sweat!). I don't want to put it in my saddle bag because I would like to have easy access to it for both answering calls and access to GPS/maps

Any solutions by fellow touch screen phone owners?

Freezer bags are thicker and tougher and last longer. Holds credit cars/insurance card and cash, too, without getting them damp.

I usually just keep my iphone in a case (otterbox, but seems like anything rubbery would work), and make sure to put it in my jersey pocket so the screen faces away from my body. Seems to work for me, though I haven't ridden in the rain much with it, so I might want to start thinking about that.

I use ziploc bags for my blackberry curve, but I get them the same size as my phone. Usually craft/hobby stores will have a variety of sizes that you can get a box for pretty inexpensive.

Weird. I keep my Droid X in my center back pocket (screen facing away from my back so I don't get sweat seepage on the screen) and I've never notice any condensation. Note, I also have a cover for the phone (carbon, obviously, to match my bike) and plastic film to protect the screen.

Guess that doesn't really help you at all... I like kleinboogie's idea.

I don't know if its the weather giving you the issue or sweat, sweat causes my phone to get wet. I know therearesome jerseys with a sweat protector on the back panel for this issue alone. I don't know where to buy them however

I wonder if Glad Wrap and Seal would work? It's an interesting hi-tech plastic wrap and if applied properly might keep out water while forming a removable second skin. The downside is that it's imprinted with a design which might occlude seeing the screen. Just a thought only as I don't own a touch-screen phone, but have an Ipad which I've been fooling around with.

Hmm, I honestly have trouble believing you get significant condensation inside of a sealed ziplock bag. Try using a freezer ziplock bag (thicker, better seal) and putting a small silica packet inside of it.

How much moisture does a phone have to be exposed to before the internal moisture indicators are triggered?

Not much, according to AT&T leaving a phone in the bathroom while taking a shower can cause the moisture indicator to trigger. We learned this the hard way with a blackberry

Weird, I haven't had troubles with electronics inside regular sandwich style ziplock bags. When I leave my ipod/phone in the pocket alone I usually get some condensation on them, but bagging keeps it all away, even during the rainy days.
