Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun) ride(s) ...

Friday ... I walked about an hour and covered a little over 5 km.

Saturday ... I cycled 21 km!! WooHoo!! I can ride again!!

Edit: It was sunny and +3C out there, so very nice. I actually overdressed and was a little bit too hot. Some of the snow has melted so brown grass is showing through ... and the roads are good now, although partially covered in sand and gravel. I was able to ride from home rather than having to drive to find decent roads. And the birds are singing!

We'll see about tomorrow.

How about you?

Local group ride of 40 miles and then another 10 after some lunch. Sunny day in the Northwest for a change was nice.

Glad your back on the bike. Recovering from injury sucks.

70 miles in a high wind warning. Steady winds of about 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Sort of humorous first 15 miles on roads through open farm land on narrow 2 lane roads with no shoulder. Most of that was with a crosswind that had me gripping the drops and wrestling my bike to keep upright and out of the path of following motor vehicles. Temperature was in the 50s and 60s with bright sunlight. All in all, a very nice ride. Although, my shoulder and neck muscles are noticeably more sore than after most rides. Spring may have finally arrived. The world isturning green again and the spring peepers were belting out a chorus after yesterday's rains.

80 miles today, 4600 feet, 14.9 avg. Up into El Dorado Hills, around to Folsom, then up to Loomis and home.

Short and slow 28 mile ride tomorrow with a friend.

65 miles in fantastic conditions. Mid 70's, low humidity and winds about 5-8. I got up late and missed the group ride, so I just did it on my own.

Did some laps in the park today where there was a race going on; was pretty windy. There was an annoying guy handing about rules for cyclists and joggers. On my third lap I obliged and took one of the flyers. I later used it to wipe my cleats down (got mud on my cleats when I was walking around talking to some people I know)

Tomorrow is the weekly Nyack ride with the group.

24 mile group ride Friday evening and 37 solo slow miles this morning. Then later this afternoon my son and I rode 10 miles on the MUP. I think trailing him on the Tag-a-long is more work than a fast group. BTW, it's official, I hate the MUP. The only redeeming part was the kid riding the ginormous unicycle. The wheel must have been 3.5 - 4 feet tall. Then again I also got to see an '09 Cervelo S1 up close and personal. Amazing, I've been on 3 or 4 group rides a week for the past 3 weeks and the first one I see is on the MUP lol.

67 miles, north and south around Middleburg, VA. Average wind speed was 22mph with a max of 33. I didn't feel that 33mph gust. Despite the wind being from the WNW it was worst when heading west and SW. West was really hard, but the route didn't go due west very often. Nice ride. I couldn't hang with the faster riders. Garmin Edge305 says 4900Ft. of climbing. Training Center software says 4500 and Motion Based says 7250. Who knows? Wasn't all that much climbing, but I repeated a stretch of road at mile 3 it was no big deal, at mile 64 it seemed awfully hilly. :-)

Tomorrow probably I'll do a 51 mile group ride. Supposed to be easy and fast.

Machka, glad to hear you got out on the road!

My regular Saturday group ride got pushed to Sunday due to the high winds, so I took a ride through Brooklyn: over the Brooklyn Bridge, one loop around Prospect Park (kimconyc, I think I saw that guy with the flyers), then down Ocean Parkway to Coney Island.
Lots of wind + lots of sand... bleh. But I haven't been down there in a long time.

Return via Shore Parkway bike path. I was steaming along in the drops, pushing... 10 mph. For what seemed like forever.

40 miles all told. I needed a nap when I got home. Not a real nice day to be out riding, but I'll take it & hope for better tomorrow...

About 25 relaxed miles along Lake Michigan with my GF and my friend who is just getting into biking. She rode well, he was suffering but did not get discouraged. Sunny and beautiful yet chili at the moments. Nice weekend ride.

53miles, 5300ft yesterday in the East Bay Hills - beautiful day on a bike. Some pics posted here. Hopefully a short, climby ride tomorrow.

Edit: Sunday, squeezed in a 23mile loop climbing Pinehurst and Redwood after finishing my Sunday chores and spending some time with the kids. The weather was perfect, the traffic light, and the scenery spectacular. Oh, yes.

Too damn cold. 30mph winds with blowing snow.
Instead I tortured myself with a pyramid interval and then spent the day with my kid. Watched monsters vs aliens and visited red robin.
Tomorrow looks like another trainer day. Oh joy.

26 miles, 2500 feet of up, 70f/20c degrees, blue skies, breezy. It's a regular loop ride that I use to monitor my progress. I beat my previous best time set on Valentine's Day by 20 seconds shy of a full 7 minutes! 6 minutes and 40 seconds I shaved off from the previous best time. I have no idea where that came from. Odd thing was I didn't feel all that strong on the last 4 mile climb. I did hammer on the 5 mile descent heading home, so I'm sure I carved a lot of time there. Fun day in the So Cal sun!

I did a 100km group ride today, was fun.

The range roads around Edmonton are completely dry and sand free.

I rode my Worksman cargo trike 20 miles in the "Tour Dallas". Some photos are in the Tour Dallas thread in the Texas forum.

There's still time to sign up for the Couser and Rice Canyon ride. If we're lucky the Scottish Highland cows will be out.

Just over 30 miles just before dark on some nasty chip and seal Indiana roads. Came around a curve and water was across the road in one area. Thought it couldn't really be that deep and it wasn't really but I had to keep making track stand like pedal strokes because a full revolution put my foot in the water.

I'll have to try to get out for some sort of ride tomorrow because they are calling for cold temps and rain/snow for Monday and Tuesday. Enough of winter already....please.
