It's got hydraulic brakes. That's a no no for me. Plus I prefer the chromo frames as well.

I'm really starting to like these new Giants.

My only wish is that they made a 'Toughroad SLR 3' with full fenders, racks, and rim brakes at a entry level price point.

Fenders are usually extra. A fully equipped commuter bike is going be around $3000. That's with a dynamo hub and lighting system included.

Hi, I have a 2015 Trek DS 8.6 which I like. I need to buy a second bike for a different location. How would the SLR-1 compare to the 8.6 functionally?
I ride road, bike path, gravel and the occasional dirt trail/fire road. The paths around here have plenty of bumps. I find that when I ride on my road bike (110 psi) I'm beat up by the end of a ride...not so with the 8.6

Thanks!
Oh, I can't get another Trek in the new area because the Trek dealers here just stink. I'd rather switch brands than give them my money.

Just picked up the SLR1, rode thru downtown Boston to south station from the Fenway park area. Quite the bike that's for sure. Question about locks, never needed one till now, what's the scoop? I'd like to have one with a mount to secure it while riding, thoughts?
...on the bus now going back up to Portland.

Congratulations!

An urban 29er will take you anywhere... from potholed urban streets to gravel-strewn fire roads.

Nice looking bike, but it's a clear, repeat violation of the "drive side photo" rule.

Congrats on the bike! There is a Kryptonite Kryptolok Series 2 U-Lock w/ cable that has been on sale a lot this Summer ($30)
I saw it advertised as having a FlexFrame-U mounting bracket.

Regarding the bike - do the cables have enough slack to put a higher degree stem on there?

Nice pics, JES600. Thanks!

I think of all the bikes on the market today, if I were to purchase a new one my first choice would probably be the ToughRoad SLR 2. It appears to be the perfect big guy fitness bike at a great price point. My second choice would be an AnyRoad 1. Are there better bikes out there? Sure, if I want to mortgage the house. I don't have that kind of long green just sitting around these days.

Mine had plenty of cable for that. The head tube is pretty tall, so even the stock stem flipped up is a relatively casual position. I actually flipped mine and removed some spacers for a more aggressive fit.

Did you end up having to special order your bike (was it you that couldn't find a large)?
If not mistaken, the stem is eight degrees on all SLR's.. I may need to go with a twenty.
Less than three months til I order this bike ....counting the days

No, he didn't. The "typical hybrid" does not have clearance for full-on 50mm (2 inch or so) 29er mtb tires. This one does. It precisely fits SpeedyStein's description.

Yes, I wound up having to order it. It took about 2 weeks to for the bike to arrive, so it wasn't bad.

The bike is basically a rigid 29er mountain bike, with some minor tweaks for on road performance (carbon fork). The riding position is more aggressive than a typical hybrid, generally set for bars and saddle at similar heights. The frame is very light and feels much more like a good Al road frame.

Typical hybrids will be much more upright, have suspension forks, less tire clearance, and be about 5-10 lbs heavier.

This site has the 2017 SLR 1 listed for $1199 US.. Just a few specs mentioned, and the Shimano brakes are gone.
I'm not liking the fugly grey tires, crank, and partial paint scheme on this at all.
Thoughts?

A very poor picture. I doubt it has grey tires. I also noted that it mentions a 2X10 gearing but there are 3 chain rings in the pic. Something about this pic on kozy.com doesn't add up.

The picture quality is poor and there appears to be a place holder crank for some crazy reason, but the colours of Black & Blue will likely prove to be correct, as that is listed when you try to select a size from the drop down menu.

Ah, I got fooled by a fake pic then Giant did confirm that the SLR 1 is $100 cheaper than last year.
No price decrease on the SLR 2 tho.
