Austro Daimler Vent Noir II. Is this thing rare and/or valuable?
Hey guys, I picked this bike up the other day and absolutely love it. It is a little bigger than I would prefer but I have it set up comfortably right now and am going to keep it.
Looking for some ideas on value/rarity. As I mentioned, I don't intend to sell it but I'm just curious. Full 531, original and very good condition Campy Nuovo GS/GS group with Cinelli stem/bars, Brooks Pro and the extremely rare and desirable foam handlebar grips.
I know value depends a lot on market...so for reference I just sold a 58 cm Prelude that was in much worse condition than this for $240 with multiple interested parties (I'm in Boston proper).

Not rare, but pretty valuable. $350-400 as is, where you are as the floor. Maybe more because it is very very clean. In freshly serviced all systems go condition.

Not rare but pretty valuable. The Boston market is pretty hot. Around here, it would be very difficult to get full value for this bike without going ebay. There just is not enough local interest in higher end vintage bikes. So if I sold it locally, I would not get anymore than EjustE's estimate. Fortunately, you are in a larger and much hotter market, so maybe you could get the $600 mark.

Nice find. Looks very original and well kept. These things are all over the place pricewise. Last week one sold for $150 (though I don't know how it was equipped or condition otherwise) while last summer a seller was trying to get $1,600. They're desirable. Everybody seems to want one. I have two: one that's a nice original example like yours and one that's kind of a beater, but great riding bikes in any case. I sold another that was a little too small for me a couple of Springs ago when the market was maybe a little better. It was kinda in-between mint original and good rider. It had no problem fetching $495 the first day it was listed. I would maybe "preserve" that rare and desirable foam grip for fear of anything possibly damaging it and perhaps replace with some cloth or Benotto, get some hoods and throw it out there for at least $600. That does put you in the territory of a Raleigh Pro, Paramount or other 531 bike that is equipped with NR and not GS, but the condition and the desirability of smoke chrome should make up for that. By the way, what's the serial?

Thanks for the replies. I don't plan on selling it any time soon but might try to trade it for a similar vintage/quality bike in 54cm somewhere down the road.

Thanks for your interest in the AD. Unfortunately, I no longer own the bike. I sold it a few years ago as it never quite fit right and I was losing interest in riding lugged steel.
Best of luck with your search. They are out there!

Hi there - Aaron pointed me to this thread. Life has gotten in the way and I haven't been on this forum for a few years. And sadly, I've sold most of my C&V bikes in favor of modern cross and mountain bikes.
