Trek 520 Road Bike Find, Model Year?
Just picked this up for $40. Any ideas on what time frame this is from? Mid, late 90's?

Just look up the component codes on the Shimano parts at the vintage Trek site. You should also be able to look up your serial number. Looks relatively modern (1990s).

FYI

May or may not be a '94, but check out the 520 in the '94 catalog through the website above.
Where did you score a full-blown Trek touring bike for $40...garage sale? Close relative? Best not to ask?

Thanks. Sorry, I was lazy as poop, and just thought somebody would tell me what model year it is. The serial # is 1477722. It is also marked 520 25 US. With the Dark Green, and Gold Trim Paint, and according to the Trek Site, that puts it at 95'.
I found it where I find everything. My local thrift.

Is it just me, or does the top tube have a hump in it?

Yeah, is that an optical illusion or is the top tube bent?
By the way, I have this exact same frame same color, getting ready to build up for myself. Mine had less than half the original components yours has. My bars were identikit, just different reach stem.
Of course both yours and mine were obviously mid-1990s.
Oh, and b'gosh, I paid double what you did! Musta got ripped off! ;-)

Nice find! I've been tracking 520's on ebay and they've been going for average $500!

Bent?
It's an optical illusion. I am to lazy to insert pics.
Yep, it was quite a find.
I went back and they had another large frame bike that had old campy components that somebody painted gold. It had a horn, and a whirly gig on it. It was light weight steel frame, about thirty years old. Shame. It was probably a nice bike. Had a nice older seat, but nothing to make me buy this for $40. Although it was a very salvageable bike. What ever the hell it is.

+10 Super score on that Trek 520. Top tube does look tweaked, probably just an optical illusion as I don't see any other signs of frame damage.

I found a nice Fuji S12, a couple of Specialized road bikes, and a nice vintage Schwinn at a Chicago area thrift store, all cheap (and all the same visit). Probably a fluke. I was visiting the inlaws.

And for those nice enough to comment without the critique, thanks for your comments, and any offered insight.
