He apparently died of a massive heart attack. He had been diagnosed with MS as well, this past year.

This is sad news, to us he was sometimes larger than life. The he would answer a simple question with a simple answer, it made him human, and a friend to us all.
We are the lucky ones that Sheldon Brown existed in our world.
Thank you Sheldon, for sharing you knowledge, and for writing it in a place where it could be shared, so we can continue to learn from you.
Thank you Sheldon, you will be missed.

Having lost sydney and now Sheldon Brown bikeforums.net has lost two of the greatest minds as they relate to the mechanics of the modern bicycle. You will be greatly missed Sheldon. R.I.P.

I see. Thanks for the info. I went to the Harris website, but it didn't list anything other than he was gone.

All the best.

Compared to Sheldon, most of us only have a passing interest in cycling. For him, it seemed to define him (at least to us who looked up to him). In reading his blog regarding his health, I found myself pulling for him to find a cause for his deteriorating health that would not keep him from cycling. As things continued to get worse for him, he only seemed to be more positive. He would not stop living his life according to Sheldon. He rode his Tadpole recumbent trike and marveled at how many people he was able to talk to due to his slower speed. He even found that dogs weren't nearly as bad when you are at their level! I have learned an important lesson from Sheldon that I guess we all should know - life is for living joyfully. He found joy even in his adversity. Now that adversity is ended - may only joy be left.

God bless you Sheldon! May we meet one day on a heavenly bike path! I'll even pull!

In the larger scheme of things, none of us is irreplaceable . . . but Sheldon comes about as close as you can get, at least in the cycling corner of the world.

My heartfelt condolences to the Brown family and to his many friends. I wish I could have met the man in person.

I was going to add to the thread until I read your post. I have nothing further to add. That's the long winded way of saying "+1."

Let's just hope that his massive repository of bike knowledge doesn't go away. I can't think of a more fitting way to remember him by than to keep that site online for present and future cyclists to find and be inspired by!

Such a huge loss to the cycling community; my sincere condolences to his family.

If I my make a suggestion, could someone from BF contact his family and find out if there is anything members here can do, such as future support and updates for his website?

This is one way his great work can be continued...

Here's the sticky over in SS/Fixed:

Unbelievable. Sheldon Brown was such an incredible asset, and by all accounts, an incredible person. He will, of course, be sorely missed.

A huge percentage of my bicycling knowledge came from his website, and I really can't help but hope that it continues to stay online for the foreseeable future. As someone else mentioned, him continuing to teach cyclists all over the world would be a fitting tribute.
