Sophisticated Forum Speak

Has anyone ever noticed how they "talk" more sophisticated on a forum like this one than they do in real life? It doesn't really occur in Foo as much probably because there isn't as much desire to "one up" the next guy. But in some of the other forums like in Bike Mechanics, or Advocacy etc. you read all of these posts that sound like they are written by the queen of England.

Examples.

Thanks for the affirmation Sheldon.

Do you go home from work and talk to the wife this way?

Wife:How was your day dear?

Hubby: It was quite impeccable i must say. Thank you for asking, and may I also assert that you look quite fetching?"

You have more time to consider your words and compose what you say when typing.

I speak faster than my brain can supply me with words a lot of the time, and I don't even talk fast.

I don't think so. I think it is more of a matter of people trying to sound smarter than they really are. Having more time to do that of course i will agree with.

I type differently than I speak as well.

I tend to have most of my use of speech in lectures, and classes, so I'm a lot less technical here

In real life I talk in legalese, at least at work. That and consulting speak.
In here I prefer LOL-speek but it contravenese forum guidlines thus I have
opted for a less prolix and more accessible forum of dialogue and repartee.
All clear now?

Everyone I know speaks like that when they're talking tech. You need to make yourself as clear as possible and not have people acting on your words without understanding.

"The only fact that can be relied upon is that any drivetrain will perform less than optimally under load."

This sounds totally normal to me, and I can imagine one of many people I know saying that to me.

Possibly. I can at least speak for myself in my previous message, though. I know I have a much easier time saying what I mean to say in a textual format than in face-to-face speech, and type in a style similar to how I think I would speak, were I not so horrible at face-to-face communication.

Really depends on the people I am with. Amongst my geeky friends it can be quite sophisticated, out drinking with my buds (sometimes the same people) it will be "normal"...it all depends on the context of the situation...

same kind of goes for biking. If I am with a friend who rides, and really only rides, then there is no need. But I do have a couple of friends (who I met through forums actually) and we can discuss the nuances of suspension, braking forces etc just like forum dialog. So I see both being used depending on the audience.

Does that explain the lack of punctuation/capatilization?

I don't think I talk that differently in person. But then again, my posts here aren't exactly works of literature.
