Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

BMC TM01 build thread - out with the old, in with the new!

Took the day off to build up my new time trial bike, thought I would share my progress.

First off, here is the bike this one is replacing. A 2011 BMC TT02, it is a great bike, I just fell in love with the TM01 so I had to get it.

Completed TM01.

Better pics as promised. It's done for now. Future upgrades include RTC shifters and a carbon cockpit.

Here is the new frameset, a 2012 BMC TM01.

So far today I have managed to strip down the TT02 and just got started building the new bike. This bike has all kinds of new gizmos that are going to cause me some head scratching.

First off, bb install.

Next, installing the Wheels Manufacturing bb30 to GXP adapter.

I know it seems simple but I had to read the manual to figure out how to install the seatpost. I really am behind the times.

Don't tell anyone but I kind of cheated on this step. The quarq magnet is supposed to be epoxied straight to the frame. I just couldn't bring myself to doing that to a brand new $4,500 frameset so I cheated. I applied a lizards skin frame protector and then epoxied the magnet to it. Hopefully that works out alright.

Quarq crankset installed.

Bars mounted and front brake cable installed. Each little thing is a victory!

Doesn't BMC claim to manufacture their bikes in Switzerland?

https://www.bmc-racing.com/us-en/impec/factory-tour.html

Your bike says "Made in Taiwan" ...

(Not that it makes any difference, just felt like pointing that out.)

I think it's "swiss engineering" but most bikes now are made in China/Taiwan. I think the Impec is the only one made in house at their facility.

Well they are kind of related, they share a crankset.

Thanks for the compliments, appreciate them.

aecky01, I plan to upgrade the cockpit later on, just want to make sure of my positioning before I spend a bunch of cash on bars I don't care for.
