So the Toyota recall torpedoes the whole concept, eh? How many years were the control-by-wire features in Toyotas before this happened? They ARE still there, too.....

Driver less Trucks and Captain less container ships are on the horizon,

In the Jobless economy with no source of Income other than the estate trust of your parents,

will humans revert to cannibalism to survive?

No, all us will be given a stipend. The elitists will of course own everything and dole out the stipend because they know best for us. In such a bizarre world riderless bikes make sense. They will have a camera on them to record the riderless adventure for the 400 pound geek on his couch that hacked into Hillary's server she did not have.

3D printing is in it's infancy. There may come a time you can print a bicycle that you designed or purchase the printing license and print the machine in your garage. No need then for captain-less container ships.

Who's gonna ride in an instep and trust their bike to ride them around town? They'd better build them right, too! It should be able to run stop signs, red lights, and finally people can stop crying about not getting waved at passing other cyclist, they got the time now, sitting in their aero instep, practicing for their next century.

If no one is riding the bike, is it even being ridden in the first place?

In a video, as part of a Bicycling Science, demonstration, David Gordon Wilson, Professor of mechanical engineering
at MIT, & author of the book of that science study ,, turned a bike fork & wheel backwards, so lots of trail...

and it without bars or saddle pedals etc, went straight down a hill , because of the large trail/caster angle on the steering geometry..

coming soon...

I had a quick mental image of Schwinn working with General Motors to adapt driverless car technology to bicycles. For people who want to bike but hate exercise!

Too funny. Mind you I can see them developing a 3 wheel one. Less carbon footprint than a car.

No point to me, other than making a low weight delivery vehicle or military intelligence (Spy) bike.

You can now send your bike on the weekly exercise run and hide from your wife in the workshop.

"Look, honey, I've put 40 miles on the odometer today!"
