Thanks for the info on the Gary Fisher possibility. What's your opinion of this one? Is $80 a fair price?

I haven't seen mention yet of Schwinns, the Voyageur is a fine touring bike. I forget the exact year, but they changed in early/mid 80's over to more dedicated tourer and included all the important braze ons, mid fork mounts, double mounts on f/r droputs, rack mounts on seat stays, 3 water bottle mounts, good cantilever brakes and pretty good components all around. I've done some loaded riding and short tours on mine mostly all original. Purchased from a fellow BF member here.
Also the Passage was the next step down for touring bike, still quite capable (but much more rare).
I'm also thinking about setting up another vintage Schwinn tourer, one to handle bigger tires and the occasional rougher road and use a Cimarron all terrain bike if I can ever find one.

Thanks for everyone's input. I was lucky enough to find a Ross Super Gran Tour at an estate sale today. Once it is cleaned up and overhauled, I think it will make a nice commuter - despite missing mounting points on the seat stays for a rack, and no water bottle cage mounting points. Those handle bars will have to go as well.
