Shimano information.

Is there a Shimano site/consumer help area, that will tell me what the compatibility would be across the Shimano line of products? Would like to upgrade a piece or two on my bike but want to know if the new derailleur I may want will work with my current shifter.
Thanks in advance, Frank.

I've found this page particularly useful with understanding cable pull issues.

https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Bicycl...ing_Dimensions

Perhaps post a note of what you're trying to accomplish, and someone will make a comment on the likelihood that it will work.

Thank you for this also. Great information. As far as posting a note I will once I can make a semi-intelligent question as to my end. As of now, with the information already given, I believe I can not do what I am attempting with out changing the shifters to use the front derailleur I want to use.
My knowledge is shallow while my ignorance is deep. I am in over my head but this is how I learn.
Frank.

Frank.
There seems to be a lot more information about rear derailleur compatibility than front derailleur compatibility.

If you are close, there are a couple of ways to adjust cable pull and other compatibility issues.

WolfTooth makes a "Tanpan" to convert between MTB and Road cable pull.
https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/products/tanpan

Jtek makes a similar Shiftmate to convert between various road formats, in particular Campagnolo vs Shimano
Jtek ShiftMate Gear Shifting Adapter for Shimano Campagnolo and SRAM components

You will also see notes of "Hubub" cable routing which may help adjust a bit if you are very close.

The "Travel Agent" is similar to the above, but designed for using road brake levers with linear pull V-Brake calipers.

Tektro also makes some long pull/linear pull brake levers for drop bars. RL520

Wolftooth also makes a Goatlink to drop your derailleur a bit, if you need more range.
https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/products/goatlink

Microshift Mega bar end shifters are designed to work on road bars with MTB derailleurs.
